How I became Savannah Solo Part 3

Tuesday December 22nd

Kelley and I woke up at 7. We brushed our teeth and went down stairs. Hope had coffee for the both of us. We took them and fixed our plates. We sat down and ate. Coach Jill came in and talked to us.

Jill: Good morning ladies. The bus will be leaving at 5 tonight. Our starting lineup tonight will be Solo, Krieger, Johnston, Broon, Kling, Heath, Lloyd, Brian, O'Hara, Morgan, and Baby Horse.

The whole team cheered for me and Jill calmed them.

Jill: Alright alright. We will be wearing the tracker bands tonight. Lunch is at 12 you are free to go.

We left and our group of 7 went to mine and Kelley's room. They started a movie and I grabbed my laptop. I checked my email and had one from Barron.

To Savannah Solo,
Good luck today! Wow I have never had a player be on a youth national team let alone be starting in her first Senior National team game while still in high school! I am so proud of you and what you have become and still are. I am so glad I am able to coach you and watch you grow into a phenomenal player. All of us will be watching tonight as a team at Brad's house. (Also here is the Mandeville schedule) Good luck again and go score a goal! - Chris Barron

Hope: what's got you all sappy over there Baby Horse?
Me: I just got an email from my high school coach
Ali: awe that's sweet
Me: yeah my whole team will be watching tonight

We finished our movie and then Kelley, Alex, Tobin and I made PBJ sandwiches for halftime. We had lunch and then I went to find a ball. While I was looking I ran into Tobin who had one.

Me: hey where did you get that I was looking for one
Tobin: oh they already took them all, they always leave one for me but we can share of you want?
Me: if you don't mind
Tobin: of course not, we can play soccer tennis over the benches outside
Me: yes!

About an hour later Alex came out.

Alex: There you two are. We were all about to watch film if you want to join.
Me& tob: yeah we will

The 3 of us went inside and joined the team. We watched film until it was time to go. We grabbed our backpacks and loaded the bus. As we got off we waved to the camera guy. We went into the locker room and started getting ready. Somebody put on music and we started to dance. We joked around and it was time for warmups. We went out and did our dynamic stretches. We all split up and did warmups for our positions. Defenders did long balls; midfielders and sub played keep away, and forwards shot on the keepers. We finished our warmup and went back to the locker room.

Me: geez full stadium
Kelley: yeah I know

We put on our jerseys and jackets and lined up for walkout. It was Carli, Hope, Broon, Kelley, Me, Kling, Ali, Alex, Moe, Tobin, and then Julie. We did walk out and had the starting 11 picture. We got our break and took the field. Hope pulled me over real quick.

Hope: don't be nervous you got this!
Me: thank you.

We hugged and went the opposite ways. Costa Rica had kick off. Carli won the ball and gave it to Moe. She played Kelley on the wing and she went up the field. I checked to Kelley and she played me. I took a touch and passed it in the gap behind the defender. Kelley crossed it and Alex volleyed it in to make it 1-0.

Announcer 1: GOAL! Alex Morgan finished a cross from Kelley O'Hara in the 11th minute.

We hugged around Alex and set back up. Costa Rica kicked off again and Moe won the ball. Moe, Tobin, and Alex went up the field passing in a triangle. Moe attempted another pass but it bounced off a defender. I collected the ball and took a touch before I shot.
