You didn't know what it was, but there was always something about being alone that made all the creeps come out. You were waiting on Sam at a small cafe (it had quickly become one of your favorite places to eat). Sam was running about 20 minutes late and Rick was quick to offer some company.

You gave Sam a small smile and wave when you saw him in the doorway of the restaurant. You stood to greet him with a kiss on the cheek, "Hey."

You didn't spend too much time on your greeting because his eyes had already landed on the interloper, "Who's this?"

"Sam, this is Rick. Rick this is Sam, my boyfriend. He was uh, keeping me company?" It came out more as a question, because honestly you weren't quite sure why he was still there (you told him several times that you were okay by yourself).

"Oh. That was so kind of Rick. I didn't like the idea of you being here alone. I'm always so scared someone is just gonna try and snatch her up. I just love her so much. You know, knowing there are people in the world like her was the whole reason I joined the army... And I mean I wasn't too keen on getting back into the game when Captain America asked for my help, but you know how it is... How do you say no? If you've got the skills and training to be an Avenger and you can make the world a safer place, then you should do it, right? That's what it's all about for me. Making the world a safer place for the person I love. I wouldn't let anything or ANYONE ever lay a finger on my little ray of sunshine here." Sam placed a kiss on the top of your head. His speech was soft and sweet, but his eyes practically dared the man to try something.

As Sam expected it wasn't very long before the intruder excused himself and left you two alone. He was prepared to go on as if nothing happened, "How was your day?"

"Oh it was fine," You chuckled, "That speech was definitely the highlight though."

"And it was all the truth." Sam gave you a sweet smile. You knew better though... Sam wasn't too keen on helping Captain America... yeah right. When you raised an eyebrow at him, he changed his tune a little, "Well, it was basically all true. How else was I supposed to effortlessly work my resume into that conversation?"

"That was effortlessly?" You winked at the man, "Whatever you say, my little ray of sunshine."
