It says that I'm pregnant. I sit on the toilet with my head in my hands and just sob. I hear a knock on the door and lift my head up.
“Come in.” I sob.
“Hey what does it say?” Amber asks with some worry in her voice.
“It- it says I’m- I’m pregnant Amber! I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’m so scared.”
“El calm down. Sometimes the tests are just not super reliable. Wanna go to the doctor and confirm in?”
I just nod as an answer and get up to get clothes on so I can go to the doctor and confirm this. That stupid bastard better has not gotten me preggies and just cheats on me like that. This won’t turn out good if I am. I wouldn’t be able to go through with the abortion knowing something alive would be growing inside of me.
“Ready?” Amber asks about fifteen minutes later.
“Yes let’s get going.” I say little more depressed sounding then I actually should be feeling.
We arrive at the doctor and I sit down in one of the seats.
“Ms. You need to come and sign these papers up here.”
I get up and grab the clip board and paper where it asks me to answer all these irrelevant questions. After I finish answering all the questions I sit and wait for the doctor to call me in with Amber in silence. It takes about ten minutes until someone finally comes and calls me in.
“Ms. Dickson come right on in.”
Amber and I get up from the chair and walk in the ultra sound room together. It’s one of those ultra sounds that go all 3D and you can see the color of the baby’s hair and eyes and see all the fingers and toes. But I’m not that far along yet if I’m actually pregnant. They get started on the ultra sound, putting the liquid on me and rubbing the devise on my stomach checking for the baby. The doctor starts to write things on her clipboard and then walks out of the room. About a minute later she comes back in.
“Congratulation Ms. Dickson you are pregnant and about three weeks pregnant.” The doctors explain with happiness on her face. Although I should be happy I am far from it.
“Thanks doctor.”
“Would you like the pictures?”
“Um… Yeah I guess I do.”
She leaves the room and comes back a couple seconds later with an envelope in her hands. She hands me the envelope and I take a look inside to see my soon to be baby picture inside the envelope. Amber and I then get up and leave the doctor with everything confirmed leaving me to decide if and when I should tell Austin. Once we get home I ask Amber what I should do.
“Amber when should I tell Austin?”
“He should be the first you tell. He is the father and obviously you still love him.”
“You’re right I’ll call him right now.”
“And I’ll leave right now.”
“I’m scared to do it alone.”
“Well it’s what’s best. If anything goes wrong I’m just a phone call away and at Alex’s.”
She gets up and leaves, leaving me alone inside our room with a phone clenched inside my hand. I quickly dial his number before I have second thoughts.
