Dan

My sinking day ends and I'm left to walk back alone to the place I call home. Towards the evening the sun lets out warm strokes on my black clothes, giving me the only feeling of warmth I ever get. The trees around me giving off a noise every now and then and the yellow flowers sticking through the stone tiles of the pathway look more of weeds. At least I can relate to nature. As I stand outside my broken wooden door, stained with a substance I don't want to encounter, I hear words mumbling out of my step fathers mouth. The words almost sound like they are falling down his chest to the floor, as they start getting louder and louder I hear them coming closer. My mind forces me to run around the nearest wall and sprint towards the park, not looking back. I'm not ready to go "home".

My quick thinking leads me to a homely park. As I approach the playground, the air being forced out of my lungs slowly goes back to normal and my knees feel week from running. I'm not the most fit person-far from it, but if I feel myself getting anxious my only thought is to escape. I wish I could escape. Finally I rise my head and see the small swing set I loved as a child, bringing me back memories of my small childhood before it was crushed to pieces. My legs give back strength as I walk towards the small auburn red swing set, I glide my finger along the rust of the chains and wipe the dust off with my thumb. As I take a seat my legs remain on the ground and I take the bag off my bruised shoulders to the floor, moving my eyes to the ground watching the cold bark disappear underneath my feet.

Phil

"Muuum, I'm off to walk the dog to the park down the road!" I let out a echoing shout from my room upstairs, tying my shoes and grabbing the lead. "okay but your curfew is before the street lights turn on" My mum let out a shout back, mocking the same bubbly tone I used making me giggle. I chuck on a yellow hoodie and look into my mirror, ruffling my black hair and smiling happily into my reflection before opening the door to walk downstairs meeting my dog Susan on the way, bouncing excitedly almost predicting the future. I bend down to the ground to put her lead in, getting caught in her newly washed white fur before finally clipping it in. I Bop my head around the corner of the kitchen where mum was cooking dinner "I wont be too long" I warmly smile with a happy chirp. Turning around and walking out the door to the street, Susan happily walking by my side. I look towards the park, the sunset looks beautiful and the yellow flowers sticking out of the pathway make a lovely accessory, sort of like giving the walkway a friend.

When I approach the park I take the lead off Susan and let her run free of the field, making the most of the daylight. I sit in the middle of the grass picking the dandy lions and creating a daisy chain before putting it around my wrist. Once I finished I see Susan start walking towards the old playground, approaching someone with rather dark clothing who looks familiar. I stand up rather slowly, jogging my way to Susan before seeing the guy in dark clothing patting Susan. Is that Dan? Dan from school? I thought he was bad?  As I approach the swing set Susan is quick to notice me and runs towards me, Dan looks up in shock and looks sort of embarrassed playing with his sleeves before quickly looking down and picking up his school bag.

Dan

Ugh, Josh is going to beat my ass when I get home, why did I run here in the first place? I wonder if it was a good idea to come here considering the consequences'. I place my hand on my bag and pick it up from the handle, before a small white fluffy dog comes running towards me searching for something. I drop my bag and watch as the small creature comes closer to me, looking rather bubbly and clean. I place my hand out letting the animal sniff me before deciding if I was a good person, quickly the dog started licking my hand before I gave it a little pat, letting off a small smile before looking up for an owner before spotting Phil. The most known guy in the school jogging towards me in confusion. Quickly the small creature runs towards him and my smile drops instantly, I'm known as the bad person what will he think? I stare at him awkwardly before looking down and playing with my sleeves nervously, the image of him starts playing in my mind, watching him look at me with those beautiful ocean eyes I could go swimming in. I realize he is still there before I pick up my bag and go to stand up.

"Wait" Phil is quick to respond to my actions "Don't you go to my school?", I turn around wide eyed and give a small nod before looking down so I don't get caught staring into his gaze. Phil walks towards me with the dog still bouncing around him "You must be Dan?" My thoughts go wild as I realize he knows who I am, which already means he would never be my friend. I nod in reassurance siting back in the swing grabbing out one of my pencils and paper from my bag.

You must be Phil? I wrote. Obviously it was Phil, being the most popular guy in school and also considering being an outsider, observations was really all I did during break. After looking up I see he is confused why I couldn't just speak to him, then giving off a warm smile god, I love that smile and then replying "Y-yeah I'm Phil, I see you around school sometimes-uhmm, I'm sorry if I'm being too pushy but, why cant you speak?"

I'm mute

"Oh okay" he looked down confused before looking back up at me seeing it was difficult to tell someone that, seeming that no one has ever asked me before. I quickly shut my note book and put my stuff in my bag with emotion, zipping it up and standing. "w-wait Dan" Phil let out a small shout, placing his hand on his wrist and taking off a bracelet he had on. I looked confused at him as he grabbed my arm and put the object around wrist, I gaze down at the object made of flowers. "Its a daisy chain" I glance back up and meet his eyes before he smiled and turned around looking at his dog "Have a good night Dan", He waved warmly then proceeded to walk the opposite direction. I stared at the chain of flowers around my wrist before smiling for the second time today, a new record. I must of been standing there for awhile because when I looked up the street lights had turned on.

Have a good night Dan, oh he wishes.
