Autumn awoke with a searing pain in her back and wrists. she lay looking up at the pale white ceiling in Devon's room. Waking up in Devon's room meant that she was beside the one person that seemed to help her with anything and everything, no matter what. That comforted her more than anything ever could, not even her knife could bring her that same comfort anymore. Devon was sprawled beside her on his dark blue comforter. He still wore the same clothes as the day before. She watched him as he slept. He only snored lightly.
She reached over with her bandaged arm and held his hand. He had saved her twice from two people that would've killed her if it wasn't for him. She owed him her life and she was eternally grateful.
Devon moaned and jumped. He woke up and let out a big, long sigh as he looked over at Autumn squeezing his hand.
"Morning." She smiled her perfectly crooked smile.
He smiled back and took her in his arms, "Morning beautiful. How are you feeling this morning?"
"I'm okay, my everything is sore right now, but I am glad you are finally awake." she smiled up at him.
"I wish I could make you feel better sweetheart."
"You have done more than enough for me, I'll be okay." She hugged him tight and kissed the crook of his neck."
"Devon?" They heard his mother scream from downstairs.
"Yes mom??" Devon shouted back.
"Please come downstairs and bring Autumn with you."
Devon and Autumn looked at each other confused. They both got up out of bed. Autumn threw on one on Devon's oversized black sweatshirts. She felt naked without something covering her arms. They slowly made their way down the stairs. Autumn grabbed onto Devon's hand as they turned into the kitchen. The same officer that was at the scene yesterday sat down at the island. He almost looked out of place. Last time she was in here she didn't care to take in the details. The walls were a light grey, the island was about waist height with beautiful black and white swirling marble, the chairs were tall and black wood, the cupboards were pure white with glass doors, the tiles on the floor matched the marble tops perfectly and all of the appliances were stainless steal and brand new. The police officer looked like a messy dark blue blob in the middle of pure perfection. In his hands he held a stack of papers.
"Hello again. Please sit down, yesterday we weren't properly introduced, I am officer George Alistar." He got up out of his chair and met Autumn half way to shake her hand.
Both Autumn and Devon shook his hand. They all walked back to the island where Susan was standing. Devon and Autumn took a seat beside each other, they faced officer Alistar who was sitting across the island. Susan slowly took a seat beside George.
"So," Officer Alistar started, "I have come to give you something today Autumn."
"What is it for?" Autumn asked looking down at the papers in his hands.
"They want you to go to trial against your foster mother, both you and Devon. She is being put on trial for everything she has done to you. Autumn, you are the victim and Devon is a witness. They rushed her trial to tomorrow at 3. You can choose not to go, but there is a strong chance that if you don't, then she will walk free. If you testify, then there is a chance that she will go to jail longer."
"I'm sorry officer," Susan spoke up, "they didn't inform me. What happened exactly?"
George opened his mouth to speak, but Autumn jumped in before a word could leave his pink lips. "Sarah," She said her name as if it was poison on her tongue, "tied me up, gagged me and then whipped me." Autumn got up and turned her back towards Susan. "Lift up my shirt and you'll see exactly how much of a monster she is."
