Third Person

It was quite a cold tonight and a little quite in the suburban neighborhood. Vic had just got off from a long day of work and his back was aching badly but that didn't stop him from taking his nightly walks around the block.

He was half way to his house when he heard a shuffle close by. It was nearly 10 and all the neighbors are old people who's bed time was 8 so it couldn't have been one of them.

The Mexican shook his head ignoring the sound and continued walking but when he passed a garbage can the sound was shuffling was louder but there also heard a faint meow. He stopped and curiously looked at the garbage bin, thinking that it was his imagination but was then proven wrong when there was a louder little meow. He opened the lid and a pair of frightened green eyes were looking up at him.

"How did you get in here, little guy" Vic cooed.

It was a small black kitten that wasn't even a year old yet. It was so thin that it's ribs were basically sticking out of his skin. Vic held out his hand to show the kitten that he meant no harm and let it slowly crawl it's way to his hand and lightly sniffed it.

The kitten looked up at Vic again and let out a small meow, rubbing against his callused hand. Vic smiled softly and moved his hand to pet the little animal but is scurried back when it felt movement.

"No! It's ok" Vic said softly.

The kitten's ears perked up then cautiously inched towards Vic's hand again this time letting his large finger to scratch it's head. Vic spent at least 10 minutes standing there with his hand in the garbage petting this adorable black kitten before deeming he was going to take it home with him.

"Come here, you" Vic chuckled, picking up the small animal in his arms.

Vic walked the rest of the way to his house with the kitten cuddled up into his chest. When they finally got home he set the kitten down on his spotless hardwood floor then went to his fridge to find something for it to eat.

"Hmm, what can kittens eat," Vic asked himself.

He continued to dig in the fridge before he pulled out some leftover chicken. He grabbed two bowls, filling up one with water and the other with little bits of chicken then setting it down watching the kitten run to it's food and gobbled it all up.

"Man, you were hungry" Vic chuckled, when he came back in the kitchen when both the water and food bowl were bone dry. The black kitten looked up at Vic with it's blueish green eyes and trotted over to rub against his legs. Vic leaned down and picked up the little kitten and walked them to his room and laid on the bed setting the kitten on his chest. It walked up to Vic's face giving his face a few rough licks then plopped itself in the crook of Vic's neck, the two of them drifting off to sleep.

ZzzzzzzzzzzzZ

Vic woke up in confusion. He remembered that he brought home a kitten last night...so why was there a boy curled on his chest?

"Hey! Wake Up" Vic demanded loudly.

The boy shifted but none the less his eyes flittered open at Vic. He smiled widely and scooted up and placed a kiss on Vic's tan cheek.
