Oliver Moore POV (District Nine)
Our Escort Peter was almost in tears for Isobel and I.
No words are shared, on the aircraft to the arena. It is the most awkward of times, know one wants to say anything, as we're all about to be ending each others life in a few moments. Everyone looks at each other and then shutters away when making uneasy eye contact with another.
Isobel is almost in tears, I am surprised I am not. Usually I'm sook of the century. She grabs my hand and smiles at me. i smile back in response. I feel awkward, what do I do?
Here I am, harnessed into an aircraft with twenty-three people that predominantly, could kill me holding hands with a crying girl I barely know.
She isn't the only one crying, the boy from five is also. But he cries about everything, so nothing is really new there.
"Oliver...?" she mutters through silent sobs.
"Yea?"
"Promise you'll never leave me in the arena, your the closest thing I have to a friend anymore".
"I promise" and suddenly all the awkwardness got one-hundred times more effective as the aircraft landed on the ground.
Jemima Trellis POV (District Eight)
Not a week ago I was at home, with a mother and a father. Now I am here. Several minutes away from The Hunger Games, where I will most likely die. I am not longer and optimist, but a realist. There is nothing to be happy about anymore. I have no books to rely on, no fictional characters to become friends with, all I have is a group of four other people I barely know that I am depending on helping me survive, which is probably just a lie.
Lauren is sitting next to me. We are holding hands in nervous anticipation. Next to her is Fly, the poor boy who lost his Dad, and stood in for The Hunger Games so his mother would live. I admire him.
Lauren has her hand on his knee, almost as if a sign of friendship.
Lauren is very passionate.
Sue, directly across from me, keeps smiling at me. I smile back.
Everyone is holding back tears... its just a matter of time before the flood out, together.
