A/N: This is my first story. There not as good as other people's, but I'm trying so... Go me. I'm trying to upload a bit more now, I was on a holiday so I couldn't upload but from now on, one a day. Everyone can cyber punch me if I don't
VALEN WHITTACKER
Daily routine done. All clean and showered. Breakfast eaten. Teeth Brushed. Hair Done. Usually to finish it off I'd do an hour or so of training at the training centre and head to school. But today, today is the only day my routine is rearranged. Today is Reaping Day. I will volunteer this year. I'm not 18 yet, but I'm a ruthless killer. Best my age I'd say for sure. The last two years I've wanted to volunteer, but some bloody 18 year old always gets in before me. Funny, 'cause they died both times. Well not funny that there dead, just that I would have won instead of them. Before I leave I feed my dog Hercules some cheese, he's obsessed with it.
"Hope it appeases you."
I basically sprint to reaping hoping to get there first. Half the district has turned up already. So much for being early. I go and stand with my friend Bruno and we find the hottest girl in the audience to watch for entertainment during the boring speech the mayor is about to read. We both agree on Patricia Hines. Once the mayor has finished his speech I immediately turn away from Patricia and focus on the stage waiting to volunteer. The escort walks on stage. It's a new escort this year. She's a tall and skinny, brittle woman. Her purple ringlets fall upon her soft fox skin mink. The rest of her body is dressed in various animal prints, it's quite a hideous look. I saw this last being introduced on the Caeser Flickerman Show. I had no idea she was going to be our new escort. Well seeings I'm going to be the tribute for District Two I will be seeing a lot of her. She begins introducing herself, Gilligan Mayflower. She says how excited she is to be representing such a beautiful and enchanting district. She talks a bit, hippy like, all airy-fairy. Gilligan walks over to the bowl that contains the girls from the districts name's from the ages twelve to eighteen . You can tell she's overly excited as this will be the first name she picks out from District Two. The girls name is called, but I wasn't paying much attention. Patricia caught my eye. She begins crying and hugs the girl who was chosen. I begin to feel a little sorry for Patricia. I've never lost a friend in the games yet. I can't imagine how horrific it would be to see someone you love, perish on live television. I didn't catch her name, something musical orientated. I should have payed more attention to the tribute, not Patricia. I'll see Patricia again, but the tribute, I'll be seeing for a week or so, but after that, never again will I rest eyes of her soft, freckled skin. I notice Gilligan making a move on stage so my full attention is on her.
"I wonder who the unlucky kid is gonna be this year" Bruno snickers
"Me" I mumble, my eye and focus still completely fixed on Gilligan.
I notice Bruno's face out the corner of my eye, his facial expression saying he's worked out that I WILL be volunteering
"Are you INSANE! Your risking your life bro" Bruno cries dramatically
"Well life's not very fun, without a few risks" I smirk "I VOLUNTEER" I scream just before Gilligan could say the boys name. I give Bruno a nudge telling him I'll be back so. I remove myself from the crowd and walk to the stage looking as if I was already victorious in the Hunger Games.
"And what might your name be, sir?" Gilligan asks
"Valen Whittacker!" I state proudly. It's a great feeling finally here, tribute, from District Two. I love the feeling of standing infront of my district I will represent, but also a bit intimidating. Hundred of eyes staring at you thinking different things about you. Judging your clothes, your hair, your personality. Of course I have nothing to worry about. I tick all the boxes. The female and I walked into the elegantly decorated Justice Building. We both sit in a small room the contained two 'L' shaped couches that look quite extravagant in the black colour against mustard coloured walls. I sit on one on the sofa's and she perches herself down on the other one located at the other end room. There's quite an awkward silence that has struck the room whilst I wait to my family and friends. My parents come in and do the old "I wish you luck" ritual type thing. Bruno comes in and is on the verge of tears, I don't cry. Never. I never have, never will. Crying will make me weaker, I need to stay strong to reach my full potential for the next couple of weeks. I need my energy for the chariot rides tomorrow night and I need all my power and effort for training and the exciting part, the arena. So this is moment right now is crucial as a first impression to the people of Panem. Also to the tributes, give them bit a scare. I need to show everyone, just how thirsty I am to win these games. The girl tribute, I work out to be named Harmony, after, who I am assuming to be her mother, repeated it a couple of hundred times to be drastic. From my great eavesdropping it sounds as if she is pretty skilled. I guess I will have to pick her off early if I want to win. Once the abundance of family she has, are gone we both sit in an awkward silence until the escort comes and takes us to the train, where the Capitol with be awaiting a whole lot of death.
