Chapter 4:
I sit up hesitantly and crawl across my bed. Kneeling on my knees I begin to unlatch the window. You might think I'd be more careful after almost dying every day for the last few years, but the games and revolution have only had the opposite effect on me. Opening the window I stare out at the tree beside the window, trying to get my eyes to adjust to the dark. What I see makes me almost jump out of my skin. The most beautiful blue eyes and the most perfect eyelashes look back at me. "Peeta," I whisper. I can hear the catch in my own voice, and it surprises me. I guess I missed Peeta even more than I realized. "Katniss," he says back, a small smile playing across his mouth. I bite my lip and look down. I feel his hand on the side of my cheek and jerk up. He's smiling now, and so am I. "Want to come in?" I ask sheepishly. I can't believe the shyness I feel around the boy I've spent so much time with. "I'd love that," he says. He climbs into the window and I can see him more clearly now and it makes me catch my breath. It's really him. His build, his strong arms, his tousled blonde hair, his sparkling blue eyes. "Katniss," he says breathily. And without further hesitation he opens his arms and I fall into them. Breathing in his scent, and feeling his warm arms around me I shiver with pleasure. I missed Peeta Mellark more than anything I could have imagined.
