Ringggg.
Everybody sighed in relief and began putting their books into their bags. Some of them had already gone out and left the room. You put your books into your bag and zipped it up. Then you put your head on your table.
School was over, but you felt too lazy to get up. You could hear hurried footsteps rushing out the door and some calm, slow ones. Then you realised some calm footsteps were getting louder.
Then they stopped.
You looked up without raising your head from the table. Dave was standing there. "You okay?"
You just nodded a bit and said, "Yeah, just lazy."
He let out a soft laugh and said, "Well, I'm going to get some books from my locker. Meet you at the gate." Then he walked out.
You just sighed because you remembered you have a lot of homework to do.
After a few minutes you slowly got on your feet, stretched and slung your bag over your shoulders. You held your phone in your hands and unlocked it. Then you sighed again and walked out of the class reading one of the messages John had sent earlier during class about today's homework.
When you were stopped by someone.
You felt a hand on your shoulder and you stopped in your tracks. You put your phone in your right hand and you put your hands down. You looked up and the girl put her hand down. She was a troll with a pair of horns that resembled a pincer and a stinger. Her lips were blue. She was wearing a prussian blue dress with oxford blue high heels. Her long, dark hair that reached her waist was sort of wavy, but not too wavy. And her eyes were narrowed into angry slits, directed at your eyes.
Around her stood a few other trolls, similarly dressed but in different colours.
"Well, if it isn't the girl Strider's been hanging around with," she said with a smile. But you felt something else in that smile. It didn't feel sincere.
You looked down, not wanting to meet her eyes.
"Why were you in that class for so long? Feeling so lonely without your little friends?" The trolls around her laughed.
"Hey!" she exclaimed, pushing you backwards. It wasn't very strong, but it still hurt. "Look at me, when I'm talking."
You trembled and looked up at their smiling faces. The blue-themed troll put her hands on her hips and looked at you up and down. "No wonder he's been with you lately," she said, looking at you with a fake pout. "He must feel sorry that a girl like you exists."
The other trolls laughed louder this time, and you just felt your tears building up. But you blinked them back, not wanting to cry in front of them.
"Oh, now she's crying little tears," she said in a mocking tone. Then she smiled and said sweetly, "Funny how you're only tearing up because of this. You should have done it a long time ago since you have no friends."
You wanted to say something, but you knew that if you did, you would start crying. You looked at the ground.
"Listen," she said under her breath as she walked towards you. "You better stop hanging out with my Dave. Or you'll be sorry."
She pushed you backwards even harder this time, sending you into the classroom. You almost tripped, and the other trolls laughed again. Then she pushed you again. And this time, you lost balance and your head fell onto one of the flower pots near the class door inside.
It hurt.
Your phone had fallen out of your hand and was resting near the blue-themed troll's feet. She kneeled down to pick it up. The phone was still unlocked. She dialed something on the screen.
You blinked rapidly to prevent tears from flowing. You sat upright on the floor and she got on her feet. She threw the phone at you and looked at you. Then she turned around and so did the other trolls. She walked ahead of them and down the hall. They followed behind her.
You didn't feel like crying anymore. You just stared at the phone for a while. Blood dripped from the side of your head down your neck. You unzipped your bag and pulled out your grey hoodie and put it on. You put the hoodie over your head. You put your phone in the pocket of your hoodie. Then you got up and slung your bag over your shoulders.
You quietly walked home without Dave. You didn't want him to see you like this.
You couldn't think straight. All you did was look at the ground until you reached home.
You went to your bedroom and put the bag down. You closed the door. You went into the bathroom and closed the door. You looked at the mirror as you took off your hoodie. There was dried blood on the right side of your neck and a bit on your right ear. You looked at yourself in the mirror for a while.
You washed the blood off and took a shower.
You put on a plaster on the side of your head where it hurt. It was sort of throbbing but it wasn't severe. You put on an oversized (f/c) long sleeved shirt and grey comfy pants.
You closed the curtains.
Even though your hair was still wet, you lay in bed under the blanket. You stared at the ceiling.
The reality of what happened slowly seemed to hit you.
The feeling of crying seemed to slowly come back, and those words the blue-themed troll had said to you were slowly floating back and were replaying over and over again.
The silence surrounded you in your room and in the empty house.
And in that moment, you burst into tears.
