Dinah's POV
"Dinah, answer your phone," Tori says. Tori and I along with Shay were at the jewelry store. I point towards one of the rings and then answer my phone, not even bothering to check the caller id.
"Hello?" I ask, grabbing the ring that I'm handed. I look at it for a second, and then nod.
"Don't panic but Lauren just had the baby and we're at the hospital. I had to deliver him, he is so cute and tiny and his eyes are just like Lauren's, but you should get here as soon as possible." I pull the phone away from my ear and look at Normani's selfie, before putting it back to my ear.
"Dinah?" Normani says after she realizes that I still haven't said anything. "You there?"
"Yeah Mani, I'm here." I respond, looking at the ring once more, "I'll be there as soon as I can, I'm still with the jeweler. Give me about 20 minutes. And Mani, tell Lauren I love her."
"Alright DJ," Normani says, "But if you aren't here in half an hour, I'm gonna beat your ass."
I hear the sound of buzzing after that. Dammit she hung up.
I sigh and look back over to the jeweler.
"This is the one," I tell the grey haired man, he nods and puts it in a small black, velvet box and then pushes it over to me, "How much?"
"$23,965.14" He says simply, my eyes widen and I choke on my own spit, "But I'll give you a discount."
Oh thank god.
"That will be $23,934." He says. What the fuck that's not a discount.
"I'm kidding," He says as he sees the look on my face, "$7,675.55"
"Why are you giving me such a big discount?" He shrugs and smiles.
"I've been in love before."
I smile and take my credit card out of my wallet and then hand it him. Looking over at Shay and Tori, I motion them over to me.
"So, Tori," She looks up and raises an eyebrow, "It seems that your girlfriend delivered my baby. We should get to the hospital as fast as we can."
"Wait why aren't you freaking out because you missed the birth of your first child?" Tori asks, looking at me confused.
"Mani was there. I know Lauren and Makai were-are in good hands." I smile and then grab both my card and the box off of the counter looking over to the man who's name tag reads, Eric, "Thank you so much sir. This means a lot to me."
"Its no problem," He smiles, pushing his thinning grey hair back, "Go get your girl."
I smile and thank him once more, before running out to my car.
...
"Just in time," Mani says as I reach the room Lauren is in, "One more minute and I would've had to beat your ass."
"Sorry, I was getting the ring." I tell her, bending over with my hands on my knees, trying to catch my breath. Those 5 flights of stairs were no joke.
"Ooh you got it?" Mani asks excitedly, I nod and stand up straight, putting my arms behind my head. "Can I see it?"
I nod once more and reach into my front pocket, grabbing the little box and then hand it to her.
"Oh my god!" She squeals, before I shush her, "It's beautiful. Thank you."
"For what?" I ask confused, looking at the ring remembering each detail the man had given me about it. It had a 14k white gold infinity twisted halo encrusted with white diamonds with a large princess cut diamond in the center. It wasn't too flashy and it wasn't too simple. It was perfect.
"Making my best friend happy," She smiles, handing me the box, "I'm glad she met you, you've done so much and I thank you for being here...with her. You should go in there."
I smile and nod, walking over to the door, "Thank you Mani."
"For?" She raises an eyebrow looking at me confused.
"Delivering my baby even though you are a pain in the ass most times, I wouldn't want anyone else helping my girl push a baby out of her vagina." I smile once more and then slowly push open the door and walk into the room. I quietly walk over to Lauren, smiling even larger at the sight. Her hair was wild and pushed all over the pillow and she was singing quietly to Makai.
"Hey baby," I whisper and then peck her forehead, "I'm so sorry I'm late."
"Hey, it's alright." She smiles, slowly removing her eyes away from our baby to look at me, "You're here now, that's all that matters. What took you so long anyway?"
I smile, thinking of the ring in my pocket before looking over at her, "It's a surprise. You'll find out soon enough."
"Okay," She yawns and closers her eyes, smiling sleepily. "Wanna hold him?"
I nod and carefully grab him out of Lauren's arms, cradling him to my chest. I didn't even realize I had began to cry until a tear trickled down my cheek.
"He's so beautiful, Lo." I sniffle, holding my son closer to me. His little eyes opened and he yawned looking around tiredly. He had beautiful hazel-green eyes and dark brown, curly hair that was covered by a light blue beanie, "Tell me all about him."
"Well," She starts and motions for me to sit down in the chair next to her bed, "He's 6 pounds exactly and 18 inches. He's pretty small, but the doctors say he is perfectly healthy. He was born at 5:15 pm which was an hour ago and so far all he's done is sleep. He opened his eyes a few times but this is the longest they've actually been open. Dinah Jane Hansen meet Makai Jace Hansen."
"You didn't give him your last name?" I ask, slowly dragging my eyes away from the small child in my hands and up to her.
"No, just because one day, I'm gonna be Mrs. Hansen. And I'll be ready that time." I smile and kiss Makai on his forehead.
It'll be sooner then you know.
"I love you, Lo," I smile and lean over in the seat to peck her lips softly.
"I love you too, DJ," She smiles and then yawns once more.
"Go to sleep, babygirl," I whisper, "I'll be here when you wake up."
