Chapter Twelve: Family Ties
She dodged the strange kunai easily and soon the two girls down in the ring were going head to head in sword play style using kunai. Rin clutching one made of pure ice and her opponent, Mai Xiao, was clutching a red kunai that appeared to be made of crystal.
"She's doing quite well, against my student I mean." The Suna Jōnin of the girl fighting against Rin commented as she walked up to stand next to me. "I'm Uka Kira."
The blonde haired woman who was only up to my waist in height grinned up at me. "So what is the Demon of the Mist doing being a Konoha Jōnin instructor to a bunch of Genin?" Her unusual gold eyes stared up at me.
I didn't look back at her, instead my eyes were trained on the raven haired girl who was in the middle of using an ice jutsu as she leaped high up in the air. "Ice Release: Wolf Fang Avalanche Technique!"
"It's none of your business." The Suna girl had managed to dodge Rin's wolves and had turned them to crystals, shattering them to dust.
"I'd say it is, after all I've a feeling that we will be seeing much more of each other." She clung to my arm and stared up at me, faking a doe eyed look. "Maybe... even in more ways than one?" Her voice changed into a flirtatious and, disturbingly, girl tone.
I pulled my arm away. "Not interested." With that I left to stand with the rest of my team, far away from the woman who smelled of nothing but death under roses.
Ren nudged my side with his elbow with a stupid grin. "Quite the catch, aren't cha, Uncle Zab?" I gave him a glare. "But now I'm wondering if you're really a straight arrow or not."
"Watch it kid." Before he could say anything else, the match was called.
"Winner: Rin!" The referee coughed some more before announcing the next pair. "Gaara vs. Lee Rock!"
Rin made it back up to the lift after exchanging some words with the Suna kid and now stood between her brother and Haku. "She said to meet her after the preliminaries are over. She'll be outside till everyone else leaves."
I nodded. "So, that kid who I think she is?" I asked and Rin nodded.
"That's right." Her eyes were trained on the battle below, but I knew her mind was on something else. "She's Suki and Riku's daughter. A fellow Subete and our final lead."
The battles went on strong and soon it was time for Haku to fight. His opponent was the Suna boy who sat next to him during the first phase, Tachibana Sosuke.
"Ah, so we meet again, huh girly boy?" Sosuke attempted the taunt, flipping his blonde hair.
Haku, however, did not react. Instead, the former mercenary ninja simply readied his Senbon needles in silence. Taking care to pick out the ones coated in paralysis poison.
"So tell me, what's it like?" The green eyed male asked vaguely.
Haku blinked, but didn't lower his guard, nor did he lose his grip on his weapons. "What is it you are asking me?"
The Suna boy grinned. "I mean what's it like being in the same team as that cutie who was fighting against Xiao earlier?" He wiggled his brows and looked up to where Rin was, sending the girl a wink.
