Chapter One: An Old Saying

☇☯☇☯☇☯☇☯☇☯☇☯☇☯

I woke up with familiar warmth resting against my back. I looked over my shoulder to see the back of someone with straight black hair, just between shoulder and chin length.

I let out a sleepy sigh before yanking myself out of bed, careful not to wake the boy who was identical to me in almost every single way.

I grabbed my usual clothes: dark shorts, a sleeveless black top and a red scarf.

I slipped into the bathroom attached to our bedroom and went on with my short--simple--morning routine after changing in the bathroom.

I walked out and was greeted with a tired look on a face that was identical to mine, just a guy version. "Morning Ren-nii, what do you want for breakfast?" I asked and yawned at the end of my sentence.

Ren yawned as well before lazily looking up at me with tired dark brown eyes. "Morning Rin. Anything is fine." He then trucked his way to his dresser to get ready for another boring day at the academy.

I shook my head at how bad my twin was with mornings before walking out of the room and towards the kitchen.

I opened the fridge and let my dark brown eyes scan the contents in it before pulling out two eggs, some marble cheese and left over barbecue chicken from last night.

I whisked the eggs in separate bowls and seasoned them with salt and pepper-more pepper in one bowl and more salt in the other.

I shredded the cold chicken meat and sliced the block of cheese into a few thick strips.

I fired up the stove and gave the frying pan a thin layer of light oil. Once the pan was hot enough, I poured in one of the whisked eggs. I placed a lid on top.

After a minute I lifted the lid and flipped the now puffed up egg. I used my chopsticks to place down the shredded chicken and sliced cheese on one half of the egg. I then folded the plain side of the egg over the chicken and the now melting cheese.

I plated the food and cooked the next one in the exact same way before plating it as well.

Just as I finished setting the table, Ren finally came down, fully dressed in his usual red hoodie over a black muscle tee, black pants and a red scarf that matched my own.

He sat down before digging in. I did the same, indulging in the egg with extra black pepper seasoning.

"Are you nervous for today, L'il Rin?" He asked me after finishing his egg. "After all, today's the day we discover what squad we're going to be on."

I gave him a blank look and finished the last bite of my homemade breakfast. "Not really, the Hokage knows for a fact that we're a package deal. We'll make our weak teammate stronger in no time." I stated.

"Yes, but we don't want the entire village on our case on our actual skill level or on how we know about you know what; unless you want to be monitored by the ANBU for months on end again." He became serious and I straightened my back upon notice.

"Of course not. We only just gained their trust after living here for two years; I'm not going to let our hard work so far be wasted on nothing." I got up and placed my plate in the sink. "And I really don't feel like moving villages, again."

Ren nodded slowly as he hummed. "Well, let's get going." He got up, placed his plate in the sink and started towards the front door.

I threw on my brown and white sleeved leather bomber jacket and we both slipped into our black footwear, mine being boots and his being running shoes.
