Chapter Eighteen: Hell's Fire, Heaven's Heart, and the Abyss' Ice
The Sand and Sound had stormed through the village and left nothing but sorrow and a mess behind them. We had lost a handful of shinobi, but we had also lost the Hokage himself to his own former student; Orochimaru.
The rain raged down in a gentle cry as every single person in the village stood out before a large tombstone. Everyone dresses in black, a white lily in hand and tears in their eyes. Well almost everyone was in black.
People had glared harshly at myself and Ren as we didn't wear black, but white in stead and held bunches of white mums in our hands. When it was our turn to place down a flower we were stopped by a girl from our class back in the academy. I believe she was in squad one. "Hey! Do you really think you can disrespect the dead like this?!" She was shaking in rage.
I looked up to Ren and he just shrugged at me, placing down his bundle of mums that were held together with a green ribbon. I turned to the angered girl. "We are doing no such thing, where we come from white is what is worn for funerals." I informed her, my voice loud enough for the people around us to hear. "Just because we do not follow your customs does not make us 'disrespectful' as you call it. You are simply ignorant." I placed down my bundle of white mums and pulled the green ribbon in my hair loose and releasing my hair.
I rang the bell attached to the ribbon three times and bowed to the picture of the Hokage with the bell and ribbon wrapped around my hands that were clapped together. I then retied my hair and walked away to rejoin Ren, Haku and Uncle Zabu.
They were both dressed in a deep gray; following our clan's traditions--outsiders who become one with us shall wear the colour of stone when seeing off a breathless comrade. The old ones' rules and customs we're always present within my mind. Like a melody that can never be forgotten.
We staid, standing at the sidelines to watch as the rest of the village placed down their flowers, till nearly everyone had left--that's when we had left as well. It was a sorrowful day, with rain and tears becoming the same, but it was also a new chapter for Konohagakure.
It was the end of a book... and the begining of the next.
I flipped backwards and landed on a low tree branch as to dodge a stream of fire aimed to where I had previously been standing. "You'll have to try harder then that to hit me, Ren." I found myself taunting slightly. These past few months have truly been transformative for me. Albeit slowly but surely.
With a chuckle I drew the sword strapped to my back. The elder of the twins of my team growled at me. "You asked for it, Haku!" His eyes blinked harshly, opening to reveal his now unique red and black eyes. The image of pentagons dancing together in a pinwheel. Sharingan.
I had been sparing with Ren for the past week with sword play, Ninjutsu training with Rin, and our over all training with Zabuza. The new Hokage was being fetched by Naruto and the Toad Sage, but as we wait someone else was in charge temporary; Danzo of the ANBU.
"Alright you two, get your ass' back at the house, Ren made lunch!" Zabuza shouted from the other side of the training grounds, a tired look on his face. He must have gone to look over the other leads last night.
"Alright!" Rin and I called back and we raced over to our sensei, not wanting to keep Ren waiting.
