Chapter Nineteen

"If you could all take your seats." Narcissa called across the hall as it fell silent. Melody grabbed Snape's hand as he lead her over to a reprimanding oak table spreading across the middle of the room, embellished with black, tall backed chairs and gleaming goblets and cutlery.

She couldn't help but smirk slightly when he pulled the chair out for her and gave him a small wink, sinking into the upholstery with a sly grin pasted on her face. He sat down composedly, face void of any expression as his hands automatically folded in his lap and his eyes settled on the plate before him.

Melody shuffled sideways on the chair, aware that the room had exploded into laughter and raucous talking once more as house elves began to fill the goblets with wine and other alcoholic beverages. Knowing that she was unnoticed, she moved her chair over so that it was touchingSnape's and rested a hand on his leg, pointedly not looking at him.

Their seats were right at the edge of the table so they had some privacy as his hand settled comfortingly over hers and he leant down, lips brushing her neck gently as he murmured something in her ear, to which she giggled softly in response.

Her mouth met his and he closed his eyes, thumb caressing the nape of her neck as she held his face between her hands. Their kiss was tender and soft, and as they pulled apart they stared ateach other for a moment before Melody smiled.

"Get in there Snape!" Someone leered, amongst bouts of delighted laughter as people began to turn their attention on them.

"Shut it Malin. Just because there isn't anyone who'd want to screw you." Melody growled and the man scowled, sitting upright in his chair with his cheeks burning as everyone around them began to laugh at his misfortune.

"Eugh, I'm sorry but I need to get that image out of my mind!" Someone laughed and Malin's scowl deepened, eyes narrowing as he glared at a smirking Melody who was once again engaged withSnape, fingers beginning to curl through his hair.

"Severus..." a silky voice dripped through the air and they pulled quickly apart, Melody struggling to hide the fearful tears in her eyes as she gripped snape's hand beneath the table, averting her gaze to the floor as not to see the gruesome face of the man standing at the end of the table.

"My Lord! I was just-"

"Severus my friend, there is no need to make excuses. After all these years of me telling you that you should find a woman to satisfy your needs, you've finally done as I have asked. I gather she can be trusted?"

"Why should she need to be trusted? It's a physical relationship; I'm not going to tell her anything."Snape said emotionlessly, gripping her hand tighter which she squeezed thankfully. He was regretting every word but they'd been over it earlier and they both knew how they were supposed to act - Snape detached and Melody like a brainless slut obeying his every whim.

"Severus, come with me." Voldemort beckoned with a thin, yellow talloned finger, sinister smile present upon his snake like features as Snape followed him obediently from the room, leaving Melody staring after his retreating figure at a loss for what to do.

"Your little boyfriend's in trouble, he is." A man slurred beside her, leaning in so that his repugnant breath wreaking strongly of alcohol drifted in front of her face and she choked slightly.

"You'll be needing a replacement soon, love." Another man shouted from further down the table, causing the first man to snort with laughter. Melody frowned, eyes still trained on the door whereSnape had disappeared.

"Why don't you give me a try, eh?" The second man shouted and other voices began to join in.

"Or me! I'm better than Snape."
