The end of the school day could not come soon enough, let me tell you. When that final bell went off, I picked up my bag and ran out into the hall, making my way to my locker. when i arrived, there was a post-it note attached to it.
"That skirt does look fine on you"
He will not let up. I groaned and scrunched up the note into a ball, tossing it behind me. I placed my books inside, and pulled out my bag that I needed for cheer-leading practice. some of the girls walked past me and warned me not to be late, but it's not like we ever started on time anyway, everyone had to make sure their outfits were skimpy enough for the football team to notice on the other side of the field. ugh.
I walk outside and towards the field, waving to my friends as I passed them. I just needed to get through this practice and then I could go home and get ready, ready for what you ask? Well, every week after practice, i go home, change and then make my way to a dance class. We were suggested this by our coach so that way we were ready for what ever routine he may throw at us, not that I minded. I loved to Dance anyway. I finally make it out onto the field, for an afternoon, it's actually pretty sunny out. that wasn't a normal occurrence really. I went to throw my bag down onto the seats to my left, but when I turned to that direction I was actually a little repulsed. Dan was leaning against a pillar to the bleachers while he was chatting up Mia, that's probably who gave him the number. I watched as he stared her down, undressing her with his eyes. I rolled my eyes and scoffed, tossing down my bag before returning to the rest of the squad.
Practice wasn't too bad, we learned a few new moves, some which I definitely needed to work on in my own time, but I could get it down none the less. The coach blew his whistle and commanded that every one gather around, today was the day where he was announcing the new captain of the squad for the year. I didn't apply for it, so I knew I was safe, I don't know how i would settle as a captain, it was so much responsibility and I already didn't have much time on my hands.
"Okay, so I know that quite a few of you applied to be our new captain. I wan't a girl that holds potential, that works hard both during practice and on her own volition. I know she didn't apply for the position, but (y/n), I'm hoping you'll take it."
I looked at him wide-eyed and gulped, pointing to myself.
"me?!"
"I see how hard you work, some days you're even out here on your on, don't think I haven't noticed. You could be a great captain"
"I uh, I don't know."
All the other girls were staring at me, especially Nicole. She was a mean girl that would scratch out anyone who got in her way. Oh how I wanted to hurt her sometimes. Her eyes were dark, and gave a warning. something like this could look good for me later on, it could open opportunities, Oh to hell with it.
"I'll do it"
The other girls cheered as they threw me up on their shoulder's, Nicole just stood there but to hell with her, I was going to enjoy this moment. I looked out across the field and saw the boys all looking at us, Dan being one of them, He leaned against one leg with his arms folded. I'm not sure if he was just staring at the whole group or just me, but I was feeling a little uncomfortable by it. When they finally put me down I pulled up my arm to look at my watch. Oh dear.
"Oh god, I have to go, sorry coach, I'll talk to you tomorrow"
"no worries, I'll see you then (Y/n)"
I swooped up my bag and dialed the number for my mum once I had my phone in my hands.
"Hello Darling, how are you?"
"I'm good, Hey can you come get me, I'm going to be late for my dance class"
"No worries honey, I'll be there as soon as i can"
I hung up and made sure I had everything before I left, but when I turned onto my heel to leave, I bumped into Nicole.
"Congratulations bitch"
"Is this really necessary, because I have places to be"
"Look, you better go to the coach tomorrow and tell him you changed your mind, or else you'll have to deal with me. That position should have been mine, you didn't even apply"
"Nicole, you're being petty"
"No, I'm just giving you the opportunity to change your mind. See you tomorrow"
I sighed, great. because this is what I needed right now. i swung my bag over my shoulder and sprinted out towards the car park so I could wait for someone to come and pick me up. When I got there, no one was here yet, so I decided to flip through my social media. Someone started calling out to me. I turned round and saw Dan, jogging towards me. Oh for fucks sake, Mum hurry up. I started to walk closer to the street, I could see her at the end, driving towards me. Dan was getting closer, and i just didn't have it in me to deal with him at this very second. why was it that today he has started to harass me, what was it about today in particular. As he tapped my shoulder, my mum pulled up.
"(Y/n)"
"Oh look, mum's here, gonna be late, sorry gotta go"
I hopped into the car and closed the door, exhaling loudly as I sunk into the seat.
"Bad day honey?"
"If only you knew mum"
"Alright well let's get you home, you will be late if you don't get there soon"
I sat up and put the seat belt on, resting my elbow against the door as my mum drove us home, at least there was no more school, no more Dan and no more mean girls for the rest of the day, now I just got to do what I loved, I got to dance.
