As soon as I arrived at school I walked towards my coach's office. I knew I was going to regret my decision but I wasn't going to let that bitch scare me into giving up something I've worked for, even though I didn't apply. I knocked on his door with my books in my hand and waited for him to answer, remembering that after talking to my coach I had to race over to the English department and hand in my essay. Coach opened his door and looked down at me with a smile.
"Ah (Y/n), how are you?"
"I'm okay, listen coach. About the captain's position"
"Oh, have you made a decision?"
"I have. I would be honored to take this opportunity"
"Great! Okay, well Practice is same time next week, but I would really love it if you could fit in one extra session a week without me"
"Oh, okay. No problem coach"
"See you later (Y/n), and congratulations"
I turned around and walked out of the gym, making my way over to the library before I went to the English department, The teacher won't accept my essay on a laptop so I had to go and print it. Normally the library was my happy place, my safe haven from everything that was crazy in my high school life, but when I walked in I was met face to face with Nicole. Great.
"Well, look who it is. Given up your spot yet bitch?"
I looked at her with such a smug look on my face. I took some of the hair that was sitting in front of my face and tucked it behind my ear.
"Actually Nicole, That's captain bitch to you. Now I'm not going to let your intimidation tactics work against me, so get use to this. Also, As of Monday we will be having a scheduled weekly practice without the coach, and if you're not there, consider yourself off the team because I won't put up with cheerleaders that are less than dedicated on my team"
If ever there was a time that you could see fire in someone's eyes. Now was the time, like actual coals sitting at the base of her eyes and steam protruding from the ears. She. Was. Pissed. Nicole scoffed and pushed her way past me, exiting the library. I knew I was in for it, but I wasn't going to let her scare me. I walked over to the computer and slipped my thumb drive in, printing out the necessary documents, then slid them into a clear sleeve. I double checked that every page printed out right and walked along to hand in my assignment.
I got there with about 5 minutes before the bell for roll call went off, so it wasn't late. I knocked on the door and Mr.Phillips opened it with a cup of coffee in his hand, he didn't look too pleased to see me, but he looked like that all the time. I handed him the essay and went on my way to my roll call room, there was no harm in getting there early. I stood out the front of the room and waited for the bell to ring. Once it did, it was pretty son before the halls flooded with the bodies of high school students. My roll call teacher, Ms Mackay sprinted to the room, she was always in such a rush but no one ever understood why. She unlocked the door and walked inside, I was about to follower her in, but a pair of hands found themselves on me and suddenly I was pushed to the side, forcing me to fall to the ground with my books and papers falling everywhere.
I got onto my knees and instantly started to pick up my books when a snicker appeared from above. I looked up and noticed Dan standing there with two of his friends. I was almost certain that it was him that pushed me, but with his other two jackass friends, I couldn't be sure. I sighed and continued to pick up my things as they walked inside. Bethany came up from the stairs and rushed over to help me.
"Oh honey, are you okay?"
"Not really, everything's just happening at once"
"Lunch. You and me will talk about it then, okay?"
I gave her a nod and she helped me up off the ground, handing my things over once I was stable. I gave her a small smile and walked into my room, taking my seat over in the corner, I never liked to attract attention to myself.
"(Y/n)"
I looked up and noticed Dan waving at me.
"What.."
"Wow. Someone's bitter this morning."
"Dan, leave me alone"
"I heard you tore Nicole a new one this morning. Great job there captain"
Of course he heard this information, I already knew I was a dead woman. I didn't need Dan explaining how Nicole was planning to go about it. I opened my bag and pulled out my art assignment and continued working on it, putting detail into the face of my poison ivy. I tried to drown out the hum of the room but Dan's voice kept piercing through my skull.
"Psst. (Y/n)"
I ignored him, he had no business in my life, and today of all days was not the day to annoy me.
"(Y/n)"
I ignored him once again
"(Y/n), Oi"
"(Y/n)?"
"WHAT?"
I screamed. I was irritated by the constant calling of my name that I just snapped, and when I looked up, the teacher was staring at me with the roll in her hands. I sank into my seat and apologized to her, then covered my face in it's beetroot state. I was completely embarrassed. Dan was chuckling to himself like he had accomplished something, but now I was just wanting to kick his teeth in. Eventually he continued his conversations with his friends, so I slowly, but carefully looked up, giving the occasional glance at him.
"Consume me"
Oh god. as I continue looking at Dan, the flashbacks of last night's dream comes into effect and I just can't even focus on my art anymore. I quickly slide the work back into my bag and fold my arms onto the table, slamming my head into them shortly after as I sighed. As the bell rings for first period, I get up out of my seat with a sad look on my face, picking up my bag and walking out of the room. As I trudge my way to my first class I can feel the presence of someone beside me. I look to my left and roll my eyes at him.
"What do you want Dan?"
"Are you okay?"
I stood there and looked at him, more infuriated than before.
"What makes you think I'm not okay Dan. I've only got so much shit happening in my life that I can't even deal with you breathing down my neck all the time as of late, its frustrating. You're everywhere, all the time now, and I hate it. We have to do one assignment together, we have to sit together in one class, that's it. and in that one class, you've already increased my work load by screwing me over, and I don't have the time to be doing things twice Dan. I'm squad captain, I'm a dancer, I'm a straight A student that has things do to outside the four walls of this school. I can't deal with you, so please. Just leave me be."
I turned and continued my way to class, that brief emotional monologue was already going to make me 5 minutes late. Dan tried to call me back but I just brushed it off. I wasn't lying though, He's more trouble than it's worth.
