The man in front of her wasn't wearing one of the white uniforms. She had to look up to see his face, one that wasn't smiling. He had black hair, grey eyes that were worn out, and a set jaw. Something about him made her heart beat faster within her chest. He looked to be in his mid twenties, but Kalia didn't stick around to find out.
She turned on her heel and her hopes for escape were crushed when she came face to face with another similar looking man, but this one wore a grin, with eyes as green as the moss that grew on the sides of old buildings. Kalia's neck was starting to ache.
"You must be Princess Kalia," the deep voice behind her spoke. She turned back reluctantly to meet his acquaintance one again.
"I am." She tested hesitantly. "And you are...?"
"Emrys." When he saw that that hadn't answered her question, he continued, "Elec's older brother."
So that's why he looked a bit familiar.
That means...
She turned back to the other slightly smaller man, who looked to be closer to whatever age Elec was, and he smirked down at her.
"Elijah," he introduced himself, taking her small hand in his and planting a kiss against it.
Elijah was not a child. Definitely not a child.
As he spoke his own name, his accent proved to be deep like his brother's, but huskier in nature. It was attractive, and if he weren't grinning at her like he was about to devour her whole, she might have eased at the sound of his voice. He had softer features when compared to the older brother, Emrys, which made him easier to look at, again were he not staring at her so invasively.
Just by being in their presence for no longer than a minute, she could already tell how different the two were. Whether it was maturity or personality that set them apart, she was yet to determine.
"You are as..." Elijah started, studying her with his eyes, "distracting as Elec described."
"Elijah," Emrys warned. She was entrapped between the two, and if she thought her nerves were bad before...
"Did you get his things?""Yes. Wouldn't want him to throw another gasket, would we?" Elijah replied to his brother, his focus quick to turn back on Kalia, like a little boy with a shiny new toy. "Elec has been quite the wreck since he found out you were here at last," he smirked. "And now I see why."
Emrys cleared his throat. "We should get back. It was nice to meet you, princess. We'll see you tomorrow at the ceremony."
"Unless you decide to run away again," Elijah was quick to counter, shamelessly.
Kalia's mouth twitched with ire as she blushed furiously. She hadn't even gotten a word out yet, but she didn't need to. Apparently they knew much about her already.
Emrys put a hand to her shoulder, before removing it as soon as it made contact. "Forgive my brother. He was dropped as a child."
Elijah looked indifferent at his brother's insult, a familiar amusement dancing in his eyes before he followed walked away alongside his brother.
She took a moment before continuing to her room, locking the door behind her and leaning against it, her heartbeat fast and hard against her chest.
She felt immense anger toward Elec for embarrassing her like that in front of her brothers before she got a chance to make her own impression. Any good thoughts she had about him shredded in that moment, and only left contempt.
