The Soccer Star

Chapter 8

We are currently in line for our lunch. Maddie is in front of me apologizing and apologizing about not telling me. Chase and Jay are behind me staying quiet which is unusual.

" Alex! Come on hurry up. Grab your lunch!" Maddie says.

" Gee so pushy." I say. She rolls her eyes.

" Don't you wanna know if you made the team?" Maddie says. Oh yeah! I grab my lunch. I go to pay and tell the boys I'll see them at the table. Some of the guys are already there so me and Maddie sit down near them. Jay and Chase come and Jay sits on my other side while Chase sits across from me.

" Guys I don't need bodyguards!" I exclaim. They share a look.

" Yeah you do. Now that you made the team, girls are gonna start bitching around you. And the guys." Chase says pointing at me with his spoon.

" We aren't even sure I made it on the team or not." I say. They shrug but continue eating.

" Hey Mads? When are you going to put up who made cheerleading tryouts?" I ask.

" Same time as Coach Martin does." She says. I chuckle and continue eating.

" Well we all know that I obviously made the cheer team." a annoying voice comes from behind us. I sigh.

" Nobody invited you into our conversation Collins." I say turning around. There wearing a short mini skirt and a tight top is Amy Collins. The school's "queen bee." She's really rude to everyone. I can't stand her.

" Yeah well who invited you to sit with the soccer players Parker?" Amy says with a sneer. I stand up. Even in heels she's still a bit shorter than me.

" Listen honey, I'm a soccer player. I tried out for the boys soccer team. And guess what? I'm pretty sure I made it. Because unlike you. I actually have talent." I say. A chorus of oohs goes around the table. Amy smirks.

" Talent? You call kicking a ball around talent?" She says. I raise my eyebrows.

" Is that a challenge Amy? Because I know some stuff about cheerleading since my best friend is head cheerleader. What are you again?" I say. She huffs and spins on her heel towards her table.

" Alex. You are a amazing girl." Maddie says. " You just told her!"

" I didn't even say much. Now who's ready to see who made the team?" I say. I stand to throw away my trash and Jay takes it from my hands. Chase and the guys stand as well. We head towards the bulletin board near the main entrance. Maddie is already there pinning her cheerleading thing on. Coach Martin is standing in front of the soccer one.

" listen up guys and girl. It was a very hard decision. All of you are very good. I chose Captains and positions. Go ahead take a look." with that he steps away. I immediately look at the top.

James Jackson- Captain,starting striker

Chase Parker- Captain, starting lower center midfield

Alex Parker- starting striker

I made the team! I'm starting striker! Cheerleaders are starting to arrive to look at their tryout thing. I see Amy scanning the soccer team list. She sees my name and she glares at me.

" See something you like Amy?" I say as she stares at me. She hardens her stare.

" I see you made it on the team Parker. Good luck. You'll need it." She says.

" Amy honey we don't need luck. I'm starting striker with Jay. And I have my twin brother with me. The team is really good. With me we might just win State. Would you like me to try a few cheerleading stuff?" I say.
