Chapter 9

Chase

Dad led us all to the living room and we all sat down.

" Update on how it's going on not telling Alex." He says. I look around at our brothers. This is gonna hurt.

" She already knows. She found out today." I say. I see Jay's eyes widen, I don't think he knew I was gonna tell him. My brothers have worried expressions on their faces. Connor looks away. Dad is not surprised.

" How?" he asks. I scratch the back of my neck.

" Let Jay tell you.I don't want to say. If I do I'm gonna break down." I say. Jay nods and starts explaining what happened in gym. He explains Josh insulting us and saying stuff about us. He explains that Josh almost said that mom was cheating with Alex in hearing range. He says that I beat up Josh before Alex said my name. I started crying again. One thing I did not like to do, he explains how emotional Alex was and everything else. I bite my lip to keep me from crying more. Something both me and Lex do. Dad listens very carefully and he starts pacing around the living room. We watch him in silence.

" So Alex knows?" He ask. We nod. "How is she taking it now?"

" She's doing okay. I talked to her in Home Ec. She was scared but she will get through it. We all will." Jay says. I nod.

" Maddie?!" I yell.

" Yeah?!" She yells back.

" Come here!" I say. I hear her footsteps and she enters the living room.

" Well I just entered dangerous territory. Why am I here? I should be with my best friend!" Maddie says. We roll our eyes.

" Did Alex say anything to you?" Cam asks. She launches into a whole long speech about what my twin sister said. Let me just say, that is the most emotional I have ever seen Maddie in forever.

" Okay well now that she knows we can tell her your mom is moving out this week." Dad says. I'm shocked. This week? I nod and stand up. I walk into the kitchen where my twin is sitting scrolling through Instagram. I put my arm around her and kiss her cheek.

" Hello to you too Ace." She says laughing. I love hearing her laugh. Dad whispers something to mom and she nods.

" Come on guys let's go celebrate." Mom says. We all head out taking two different cars. We pull up into Dairy Queen. We all go in line to order. I order for my sister and I pay. She smiles and pecks my cheek when I do.

" Thanks Ace." she says.

" Anything for my twin." I say. Everyone soon joins us outside.

" A toast! To Alex!" Adam says.

" To Alex!" We say clink our blizzard cups and start eating. I whisper to Alex and Jay.

" Lex, sit on Jay's lap." I say. She looks confused. I shift my eyes at Connor and then back at her. She gets it and goes to sit on Jay's lap. Jay puts his arm around her and smiles at her before turning back to the conversation that he was having with Cain. I smile. Jay seriously needs to ask out Lex. They would be so cute together. I look at Connor who is looking at Alex and Jay.

" Bro you okay?" I ask. He looks at me.

" Nope. Look!" He says pointing at Alex and Jay who are now laughing at something Adam said. I roll my eyes. And he needs to stop trying to get her.

" Bro you're never gonna get her. So back off." I say my overprotectiveness rising. He frowns. I think Alex heard me because she looks at me worried.

I'm fine I tell her in my mind. She nods and turns back to Jay and Maddie. I go over and join their conversation with Connor. Alex is comfortably sitting on Jay's lap and Jay casually has his arm around her waist while she leans back on him. I secretly take a picture of the two of them when they are laughing. Perfect. Maddie is telling some story about her date and Alex is watching her with cold eyes.
