What do one high school girl and three middle school boys do when they find a random girl in the woods? They bring her back to our house and sneak her down in the basement because, at the time, it crossed their minds as a good idea. Now, all four of us were panicking at the thought of some lost girl being in our house without any adults knowing.
The poor girl was a shivering mess. The large, yellow shirt she was wearing nearly came past her knees. She was drenched in water from head to toe. Mike, slowly becoming the gentleman he is, gave up his own coat for her. She hasn't said a word since we brought her back to our house.
Honestly, I don't even know what possessed us to think it was a good idea to bring her back here. None of us knew what to do. In the minutes of silence in the woods, I was the dummy to suggest that we get out of the rain. Out of instinct, all of us headed back to our house.
This was probably the worst idea any of us have ever had. We didn't know what to do in this kind of situation. We went looking for Will and ended up finding some random girl in the woods.
At the current moment, the four of us are staying in front of the old couch that the girl is sitting on. The thought of waking mom and dad up momentarily crossed our minds before we realized that we'd have to explain how we sneaked out of the house.
"Is there a number we can call for your parents?" Mike asks the girl first.
The girl pants, clearly out of breath from tonight's events- and wherever she originally came from. She remains silent. She barely even moves, aside from looking at my brother when he talks.
"Where's your hair?" Dustin lowly asks, "Do you have cancer?"
I swat the back of Dustin's head. "Oh, my God. You do not ask someone that!" I hiss at him.
He rubs the back of his head while giving me an apologetic look.
"Did you run away?" Lucas throws his own question at the girl.
"Are you in some kind of trouble?"
"Is that blood?"
The girl's head darts to the left and right to try and keep up with who is talking to her. The poor girl was going to end up getting whiplash. Her eyes grow wide when Lucas leans forward to point at the obvious dark red stain on her shirt.
I slap his hand away from her. "Okay, stop it! You're freaking her out!"
Lucas moves his hands out in front of him, exclaiming, "She's freaking me out!"
"I bet she's deaf." Dustin comments from my right side. Before I can stop him, Dustin leans forward and claps his hands in her face. "Not deaf."
I step in front of the boys, frustrated by them. "Okay, enough. You're just be jerks now." The storm outside rages on with thunder and lightning. I watch as she jumps from the thunder. "She's just scared and cold."
Mike walks over to the laundry basket down here and grabs a pair of his sweatpants and a shirt. "Here, these are clean, okay?"
She presses the clothes to her cheek, like she was feeling how soft they were. The clothes are set to the side and she shrugs Mike's jacket off. She climbs to her feet. Her dainty hands reach for the bottom of the shirt to lift it off.
"Whoa! No, no, no!" I gently brush her hands away from her shirt. The boys quickly look in the opposite direction, making noises of surprise.
"Oh, my God. Oh, my God!" Dustin exclaims loudly. "Reagan, do something!"
Without me here, I really don't know if these boys would be able to handle this situation. I've never even heard Mike talk about any of the girls he goes to school with. The girl looks up at me, confused.
