The ripped up pieces of photos are spread out on the floor of the hallway. I slide them around each other until I can match them up, like a puzzle. My bottom lip is sucked in between my teeth as I peer down at the photo of Barbara.
Nancy said that Steve would drive us to the place that we left Barbara's car last night after the game. The problem was that I knew we can't wait that long. If whatever took Will, took Barbara as well, we can't sit around and wait for a game to be over. We need to be out there looking for her right now.
The photo is of Barbara sitting on the diving board at the pool. She looks like she is all alone outside. The photo is pretty dark. The only light is coming from the pool. I examine the photo closer and see she has her feet in the water while holding the hand she had cut.
"- so I told Mr. Mundy," Carol continues to talk from where she was laying on the bench on the wall of the hallway. "The solution of ten plus Y equals blow me." She laughs with her head in Tommy's lap.
I roll my eyes and keep my head angled down to the right to keep checking the photos I grabbed. If no one else was outside with Barbara when she was sitting at the pool, that means that Jonathan was the last one to see her.
Jonathan wouldn't even look at me after I saw the photo he took of me. I have no idea how I'm going to be able to talk to him about this photo. The two of us usually don't talk that much in general. We've mainly only talked with notes, except for when I went with him to his father's house. Things were quiet, but we did manage to talk to each other. For Barbara, I would be able to talk to him. I have to find her.
"Bull, if you did that, you'd be in detention right now." Steve tells her. He's sitting on the other side of Nancy, who is standing between the two of us.
"Saturday." Carol smirks.
I grab some of the other photos I took and try to see if any of the others have Barbara in them. Maybe one of them will help me figure out what happened to her.
"I bet Mr. Mundy's still a virgin." Tommy says.
My fingers brush over the torn edges of the photo of me in the street. The distance between the two of us shows that Jonathan was pretty far back from the car. I barely even glanced around when I pulled my sweater off of me. From what I saw, no one was outside. Yet again, I was so freezing and upset, that I didn't really care if anyone did see me.
To be honest, I wasn't really mad or upset over the fact that Jonathan took this photo of me. Anyone else might be and consider it stalking, but I knew Jonathan pretty well. I knew that he wasn't that kind of person. With his little brother missing, he definitely wouldn't be doing something like this. No, there was more to the story and I was going to figure it out when I talk to him about this photo of Barbara.
"- maybe you should blow him, Carol. Help your grades a bit."
Carol softly laughed. Her eyes drifted to the photos beside me. "I can't believe you actually kept them." She wrinkles her nose in disgust.
My brown eyes flicker up to meet hers while my hands began to gather the pieces together. I start to shove all the pieces into my bag.
"Don't tell me that you like those photos." Carol continues to talk.
Ignoring her, I push myself to my feet and stand up. "Sorry, Nance. I can't wait around anymore." I take off down the hallway.
"Whoa, Nance, where you going?" Steve questions from behind.
The sound of footsteps echo through the hall behind me. My sister is actually going to come with me? I figured she'd stick around with her new friends. I keep walking towards the double doors of the hallway that lead outside.
