Recap
"Ok. Let's go." Madison whispered. She was just about to climb through the window when we heard a knock on the door.

Harper's P.O.V.
My breathing quickened. I dropped out of moms arms.
"Madison go. Go!" Mom said. She climbed through the window. I followed close behind. I got tired really fast, because I haven't eaten a real meal in a while. I started walking. Madison looked behind at me. She stopped and lifted me on to her back.
"Jen go!" I heard dad say from far off.
"Dad." I whispered. Madison stopped running when we got to a forest. She sat down and leaned against a tree. Mom caught up soon.
"Get him!" I heard my real mom yell. The sound of footsteps got louder as they got closer. Dad came in to the woods. He lifted me up and said, "Climb up." He put me on a low branch. I continued to climb with my family behind.

I got to a spot that could fit everyone on a branch but was enclosed so you couldn't see us. The four of us got up here and sat on a branch.
"We have to find them! Make sure you look in the trees." My real dad said. Henry looked up in our tree. He obviously couldn't see us because he walked away. In the bag, we found some rope that was in there already. We leaned against the trunk and tied the rope all the way around us. So when we slept we wouldn't fall.

Madison's P.O.V.
After we tied our selves to the tree, we came up with a schedule. Pat would watch for 15 minutes first, while everyone else slept then Jen did ,that, after her it was me. We were going to let Harper sleep the whole time. While Pat stayed awake, I tried to find a comfortable position.
"Mads?" I heard a little voice say. I turned and looked up at a branch a little higher than mine to see Harper looking worried.
"What?" I asked.

"Are we going to die?" She asked. I shook my head. I've watched the Hunger Games many times. I've practiced my survival skills every time I snuck out.
"Of course not." I said. I looked up at her one more time before I fell asleep.

30 minutes later

When it was my turn to watch, I was nervous. Jen woke me up and told me to wake Pat up if anything was wrong or if it was his turn. The first 5 minutes went fine, but after that, everything went down hill. I heard voices and footsteps. They were far off but gradually, they got closer. Eventually, they were so close, if I fell out of the tree, I would land on them. I quietly reached over and shook Pat with shaky hands.
"Pat." I whispered and pointed down. He looked down and woke up Jen. Harper looked like she was having a bad dream.

I pointed at her. Jen said to wake her up. I gently shook her little body. Nothing happened.
"What happens when she has a bad dream?" I ask nervously.
"Nothing good. She screams really loud and cries." Jen said. I could feel my face go pale. I shook her again, this time more frantically. She moaned. I reached over into the backpack and took out some water.

I slipped out of the binding and stood on Harper's branch. I put the water on her face and she woke up. I held my finger to my lips and pointed down. She looked down and looked back up quickly. I picked her up and put her on my branch. I slipped us both into the binding again so she was facing sideways. Her feet hung over the side and she rested her head in the crook of my neck.

"This is so...SPOOKAY!" Jen whispered. We all smiled. Jen always knew how to lighten the mood. Even when people were trying to kill us. I squirrel above jumped on a branch and broke a small twig connected to the branch. It fell all the down...right in front of Henry and my mother and father.

My breathing hitched. The three of them looked up. I hugged Harper tighter than before. Good thing it was dark or else we would have been dead ducks. Thankfully, they left.
"This is just like the Hunger Games." I mumbled.
"What did Katniss do?" Pat asked. I shrugged. I didn't remember. I just hoped we didn't die.

Pats P.O.V.
It was beginning to be day. I guessed it was 5:30. Today was March 17.
"It's my birthday." Madison said. I hated the thought that she might die in her birthday.
"I'd rather be doing this than being beaten to death." She pointed out.
"We have to get moving before its light out." Jen said. We untied ourselves and gathered our stuff. We all stood up. Sense I was the tallest, I looked out for the threesome that are trying to kill us.

What really sucks is that Madison lives out in the country a little bit so it would be a long way home. I didn't see them so I led everyone else down the tree. We were all at the bottom except for Harper. She was to small to reach the ground from the branch she was on. She jumped into my arms. I set her down and we started walking.

"Wait. Let's smear mud on ourselves for camouflage." Madison suggested. We nodded and started to smear mud all over us. Good thing everyones hair was somewhat dark. We started walking. This was going to be a long day.

Jens P.O.V.
We walked for about an hour before everyone was hungry.
"You can eat the inside of bark." Pat said. I tore off a piece of bark from a tree, ripped off a little piece of the inside and shoved it in my mouth. It was gross, but it was edible. Everyone took some and ate it. We brought a bunch with us for later, so we didn't waste time picking it apart of a tree. We took water out of the bag and passed it around. Half the bottle was gone when we were done with it.

"Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday dear, Madison. Happy birthday to you." Pat, Harper and I chorused. Madison smiled.
"One more year until I can leave this place. Without anyone stopping me." Madison said. I smiled at her. We walked a little more before we heard this,
"There they are! Get them!"

Without a delay, we took off running. Harper was in front of us with Madison close behind. Pat was a little behind me. This is it. This was the run for our lives.
