"Well, you're right. I've been crushing on you too. I have to go but do you want to give me your number?" I ask sheepishly. He smoothly reaches in my pocket and pulls my phone out. His hands brushing over my thighs as he did felt incredible. He quickly puts in his number.
"Text me tonight," he says.
"Okay bye Spence." I say cheerfully. He smiles and waves goodbye after I get up to leave. I never knew it was possible for someone to be so hot and cute at the same time.
This time I left first. Everything is working out so perfectly. I sigh of joy and relief getting out of there without embarrassing myself too much.
I walk into 3rd period, my favorite class, English, and everyone stares at the door. I feel so awkward but continue walking toward my desk. I actually hate writing and reading. It's only my favorite class because of my classmates, since my best friends are in it, but my teacher's an absolute bitch. She's always grumpy and mean. I don't know why she would become a teacher if she hates kids.
"Why are you so late?" Miss Rudder asks sharply.
"I was in the bathroom." I stumble out. I'm usually good at lying but I was still love struck and out of it from what had just happened.
"Is that so?" She's suspicious now. "Do you have a pass?"
"No, sorry."
"Anyways class, back to the novel. What does Pip learn when he meets Estella again at Miss Havisham's?" She was going on about the dumb literature we're reading, Great Expectations. The rest of her words fade away as I zone out in thought again. I can't wait to text Spencer tonight. Tomorrow's Friday and he'll be out for a hockey tournament. Him playing hockey makes him 10 times hotter. Guess I won't be seeing him for the next 3 days. A little piece of my heart drops as I realize this.
"Why have you been so out of it lately?" My best friend Erin asks. We always text and talk during school, even though we just met this year. We trust each other completely. Maybe I'll tell her about it later but for now I just say,
"I just have a lot on my mind." She nods understandingly.
The bell rings and this boring class is over. Victoria approaches me and calls out, "Hey Shirley!" A nickname she gave me on the first day of school. She's also one of my best friends. Erin, she and I hang out a lot over the weekends.
"Hey Pepper!" Another nickname. Long story.
"You seem really weird lately. Is everything okay?" She mutters.
"Yeah everything's great actually! Sorry I've just been thinking a lot lately. We can talk about it Sunday." I say
"Okay good. Well... see ya."
"Bye." I know she'd be supportive of all this. Erin and Victoria know I'm gay and they still love me for it. They're a little too obsessed with One Direction but I put up with it.
The rest of the day slowly drifts by. After lunch, I'm always tired and give up on school by then. The bus takes me home quietly and I walk through the front door to hear my brother and his idiot friends laughing loudly upstairs. They're seniors and I know they all smoke and do drugs. Some people tell me my brother sells but I don't care too much of what he does. It's his life. We still talk, barely, although he's nice to me when we do.
I decide to go to the kitchen to toast up some waffles and pour some milk. My diet is ridiculous but somehow I manage to stay in good shape. I head up to my bed and decide to text Spencer. In my contacts his name is saved "Spence (;". I chuckle and type "Hey Spence (;".
A couple minutes go by as I stare at the screen like a loser. No reply. If he's with friends he won't be texting me back, and I realize eventually he's not going to. Life starts to feel like it's dragging right now. Tomorrow will be more exciting, I tell myself. After all, it's Friday.
