The rest of the week flew by like a normal stressful week of school. I didn't get to talk to Spencer very much this week but we're not dating or anything so I'm not sure why I expected anything in the first place. "I shouldn't get my hopes up," I tell myself, considering I'm just his little experiment after all. Oh well, I'll take what I can get.
It's Thursday before I know it and everyone in the school is talking about tomorrow. Only our school district has a half-day and we're not really sure why but we don't question it. It could be some kind of teacher meeting day, but who really cares. I don't have any plans tomorrow so I decide to text Spencer.
I start with, "Hey Spence, what are you doing after school tomorrow? I was thinking maybe we can hang out (: let me know!" No answer... I sent the text right as I got out of school on Thursday and finally got a response Thursday night at around 7 o'clock. I'm getting a little sick of his delayed texts back, but then again if I was with him, I wouldn't want him to be on his phone all the time. He says,
"The boys are coming over tomorrow to sleepover, but that's not 'til later. We can hang out before that. This time I have a surprise for you so be ready at 1."
I become instantly overjoyed and reply with shaky fingers, "Okay great, can't wait! I'll be ready." I tell my parents I won't be home tomorrow when they get back from work and they don't ask why. Thank god, because I'm getting tired of making excuses. I swear I must have fell asleep smiling that same night.
FRIDAY. No one really tries in school today knowing it's a half-day and each class period is only twenty minutes. I'm already home by noon and start freshening up for when Spencer picks me up. I think of a billion different possibilities he planned for us. At almost exactly 1 o'clock, a van pulls up my driveway and I climb into the backseat. Next to me is Spencer looking ridiculously handsome. He's wearing grey cargo shorts and a red tee shirt with some hockey team spelled out across it. He greets me kindly and I do the same. His mom is in the driver's seat but no one is in the passengers seat. I try my best to be friendly with her and make a good impression.
She starts by saying, "Hi Liam! It's so nice to meet you." She was almost too happy, in a good way. "Hi Mrs. _____, it's nice to meet you too." Small talk continues, a little awkwardly, but that was expected. I have no idea where we're driving to but it only takes around 10 minutes until Spencer's mom stops in front of..... a Walmart? I was very confused. Spencer assures me we're there and says, "Alright, lets go!' He leaps out the car very cheerily. Whatever he has in mind, he's excited to show me. I do the same and follow him. His mom starts driving away and I have to ask him,
"Um... why are we going to Walmart?" My expression showing extreme bewilderment.
He chuckles his adorable laugh. It's so cute. I can't be in anything but the most affectionate mood when I hear it. "We're not going to Walmart Liam, we're going next door!" I look to the building attached behind the store and see something shocking. It's a laser tag arcade. I've never done it before, but my face lights up with excitement. I've always wanted to play and who better than Spencer to try it out with.
"No way, I've always wanted to do laser tag! I'm gonna be so bad but, whatever it'll be fun." I say.
"I gotta say I'm actually pretty good so it's just a matter of how badly you lose," he boasts with one of his classic boyish winks. We walk in and head to the counter to pay for the next round that starts in 20 minutes. There's so many people here. And on the leaderboard on the closest TV monitor we see that there's 30+ people in the round we're in. Waiting for the round to start, we use tokens we bought and play typical arcade games. All these games are against each other so I can tell this day will be full of competition.
We both take turns winning at some racing games and I beat him at air hockey. He cracks me up with the goofy trick moves he does spinning around and doing 360 jumps as he shoots basketballs into the timer game. We play until we hear the 2-minute warning alarm for the round starting, so we make our way over to the laser room.
"Nervous?" He asks me.
"Not at all," I respond. "Actually I'm pretty confident now that I'll destroy you."
"Oh really? We'll see about that," Spencer says, raising one eyebrow in playful suspicion.
The staff give us laser guns and jackets with laser-detecting sensors. They explain the game which is common sense really: use the laser gun to hit the most sensors on as many people you can. Then a count down starts, and when it hits zero, everyone charges into the arena, which is pitch-black except for the flashing lights on players' jackets and some spotty black light. Spencer starts taking off to the right, where I can trace the shadow of his figure moving upwards. I assume its a ramp he's ascending. I follow him not knowing where else to go, but I quickly lose him.
Other random people are shooting at me and the sounds of my jacket sensors go off, signaling I've been hit. I start shooting back and make contact with a few, starting to get the hang of it. I'm actually enjoying myself! Then from a high cliff I see Spencer's face lit up by the lights on his jacket's shoulder sensor. He shoots me and yells, "You'll have to do better than that if you want to win! Come and get me!" I take off sprinting and eventually reach where he was. Adrenaline is pumping through my body from the suspense of him popping out at me.
At the corner of my eye I see a light, but it vanishes right before my laser can hit it. "I found you!" I chase after him through the maze of turning walls and all of a sudden my jacket goes off. I look behind me and there he is, standing, and laughing at how he tricked me. "Oh, you're clever," I say and run after him yet again. This time I catch up and the laser makes contact with his jacket. Score. He disappears and I stop, not knowing where to go next. I run from the direction I came from to find him but don't have the slightest clue. I round a corner and when I do, another body runs toward my direction. I make contact with a hard, muscular build about my height. I knew it was Spencer immediately after we collided.
We laughed as we almost both collapsed to the ground, our jackets barely giving off any light to see each other. His face is illuminated only faintly by the black light, but the shadowy cast makes his jawline look even stronger than normal. When we finally recover, he grabs my arm and leads me to a hidden spot in a wall where I couldn't even see before. Its quiet but with faint sounds of lasers and running in the background.
"I can't take it anymore. You're so hot with a gun," Spencer says out loud, in a seductive voice.
I"m startled but I muster up my sexiest voice to say something back. "Yeah? I guess you can't resist me or I'll have to shoot." I sound lame even to myself. "He must pity me," I say in my head.
Instead he giggles, opposite my expected reaction, and says, "If you shoot me, then I won't be able to do this," and sweeps in towards me. He leans into my lips and I am filled with emotions. After catching my guard a bit, I kiss him back. I put my hands on his hips and pull them in closer to mine. He puts a soft hand on my cheek as he uses his other to feel my body over my shirt, gently pushing me back against the wall. My hands reach around to grip his butt. I've been craving this since we met in the hide room over a week ago. I make the first move of using tongue and he reciprocates. I move my hands to his strong arms and then under his shirt to feel his amazing abs. He's extremely fit, but being scrawny, just perfectly what you would dream a guy to look like.
The alarm sounds, meaning one minute remaining to find our way back to the door. I reach down slightly to pick up my gun without him noticing. I push on his strong pecs to step back from the kiss. I had to give him a break so he knows for sure he doesn't want to be without me. He tries stepping back towards the kiss and I use my fingers to angle his head sideways as I start kissing his neck. I remember seeing this in a movie once, and decide why not try it. I give him a little hickey and simultaneously position my gun to shoot the sensor on his jacket. I hear it go off and take off sprinting away from the little room. "Oh, you sneaky son of a bitch," I hear him say under his breath as I flee. "That will leave him wanting more," I think to myself.
