AUTHORS NOTE: I wrote this creative piece for my English assignment, and I really didn't mind it so I decided to share it :) SNIPPET #2 lol

[The scene opens up to a kitchen. There is a mahogany dining table center stage surrounded by three chairs. A refrigerator can be seen far back stage and a long bench is located opposite to the refrigerator, paired with a stove and sink. A draped entrance is located up stage, facing the table. On the table is a few collection of items grouped together around the middle, the bench has piles of dirty dishes and the sink is full of water, indicating the kitchen hadn't been cleaned for a while.

Soft rain drizzles on the tin roof. The sound echoes through empty rooms reaching every crevice available.

LINDA walks quietly through the draped entrance, and heads to the small table. Once there, she pulls out a chair and sits on it, while lowering her head down to rest upon the cold surface. After a few seconds of complete silence, LINDA brings her head up slightly. As she does so, she catches a glimpse of an envelope she hasn't been aware of until now. Lifting her head up to look at the unknown letter, she takes hold of the note.

Opening up the letter, she begins to read. The room is silent for a good ten seconds. As LINDA continues reading, her features twist into a grimace. A few more seconds of silence was heard. Once she had finished reading she slammed the piece of paper down on the table, angrily, creating a loud noise.]

LINDA: Of course! [She glares angrily at the letter from her spot at the dining table]

He has to stay in Boston for a few more days!?

Of course... [There is a few more seconds of silence as LINDA shakes her head, a look of displeasure plastered on her face.]

               Damn you Willy!

Leave me alone to look after the boys, while you shack up with some slut! [She stands up, heading towards the fridge]

You think I don't know?!? [She rips the refrigerator door open, fuming]

               I know! I've always known!

I knew the second you walked through OUR house smelling of jasmine, with a light pink lipstick stain on your collar... [LINDA pulls out a vegetable, looking disgusted and throws it back in the refrigerator]

I knew... [She pauses sadly. Picking out some vegetables, LINDA begins to cut up some carrot and potato for her beef stew]

               I wasn't enough for him.

I wasn't enough to keep him around, I wasn't enough to keep his eyes from straying and mind from wondering. [The room goes silent, LINDA finishes cutting up the vegetables. She puts the knife down.]

Did I not compare to those beautiful Boston girls? [LINDA scrapes the chopped up vegies off the cutting board and into a pot on the stove.]

[sadly] I thought you loved me Willy... [She walks away from the stove and sits down on a chair.]

When you married me, you spoke of a great future...

Do you even picture a future with me anymore? [LINDA puts her head down, staring blankly at the dark brown wood of the dining room table]

Or do you wish to make a future with your lover? [Pauses. She puts her elbows on the table and lets her face fall into her hands]

I... I thought you loved me... [She looks up momentarily, tears threatening to spill.]

I start to question little things now, like when you kiss my forehead at night and whisper "I love you", I can't fool myself into believing your words are true. [Slams hands on the table.]

[angrily] Because you can't cheat on someone you love! You can't go off to work every week, shack up with some slut and come home to say you love me! You keep telling me you need me, but where are you when I needed you? [She takes a deep breathe] In someone else's arms...

I was a fool... For giving my all into a relationship where I get nothing in return.

I know am nothing compared to her! I'm nothing compared to any of those young beautiful Boston girls... [Tears begin to slide down LINDA's cheek]

[She lays her head down on her folded arms, her head to the side staring at the letter. After a few seconds of no movement, nor sound, she puts her head up and grabs the letter. She thumbs the paper.]

LINDA: What about our children Willy? I can't let my own children know what kind of man you really are. [She scrunches up the letter and begins to tear the paper apart.]

I won't let them find out... [continues to rip up the letter]

I put my everything into this damn relationship, I gave up so much for you. The saddest part is that I love you so much that I could look past the cheating and stay with you for the rest of my life, as the devoted and loyal wife I promised to be at our wedding... [She plays with her wedding ring, eventually pulling it off and leaving it on the table]

I just wish you stuck to your vowels too...

[LINDA stands up and exits the room. The rain stops pouring and the scene fades out.]
