Chapter 13: Scars

[Back to Ruby/readers POV]

I sat near my horse and waited for everyone 'Great! They all probably heard about how I used to live in the circus. Shit!' I thought as I heard foot steps come closer to me, it was the Captain Levi and the rest. We all got on our horses in silence and left to head back to HQ.

[Time skip to when they get back to HQ]

I walked through the halls to go to my room and everyone just stared at me like I was a freak. I quickly make my way to my room and close my door behind me I slump down and feel tears threatening to come, when there was a knock on my door I take a deep breath before opening it, only to see its captain Levi.

[Levi's POV]

"Oh its you." She says and let's me in, I see her roll her eyes at me as I close the door behind me. As she turns away I grab her arm instead of her wrist and see her wince when I do "Ow!" She cried, even though I don't have a tight grip on her "What are you-" she started, but quickly stopped when I roll up her sleeve to reveal many scars and bruises on her arm, I notice her look away "Lin and Zane told you about the beatings didn't they?" She asked still looking away from me

"Yeah." I answer, she still looking away from me"You know it wasn't my idea to follow you in the tent." I say trying to make conversation. She wiggles her arm from my grip, (I see her wince from pain while doing it) and put her hands on her face

"It doesn't matter whose idea it was Levi, the thing that matters is that you all know." She groaned.

I didn't know weather to be shocked or sorry for her

"You know I've never heard you call me Levi before until now." I point out, she looks at me only to slap me across the cheek as soon as she does, she looks away from me again

"Why?" She asks, I can hear her voice waver a bit as if she's going to cry

"What?"

"Why did you all follow me?" I look at her and see a small tear roll down her cheek

"Well.... we all were so curious about your past and the fact nobody knew anything about it, bothered us." I answered, she finally looked up at me

"Actually that's a bit of a lie." She said, I look up at her with shock

"Who knew?" I ask

"2 other people knew about it one of them was Marco." She answered "but then Marco died, and now there is only one person left but I won't say who it is." She stated

"Oh. Then I have another question." She looked at me

"What is it?" She asked

"During the tight rope battle. I noticed you blushing why is that?" I asked, I saw her blush at the question "Why are you blushing now?" I ask, her face turning a deeper shade of red

"T-the answer to that question is between me and Lin" she stammered, I could see that she was still blushing, I laugh a little under my breath

"You know none of us think your a freak just because your a circus kid, we actually respect you a lot more now." I say

"Why is that? Cause you feel sorry for me just because I was beaten when I was a kid?" She asked looking at me "Last time I checked pity and respect were totally different things." She paused, looking away from me "I don't want yours or anybody else's pity, I want respect." She continued. I decide to change the subject

"So... You used to be the masked tight rope walker huh?" I asked, she laughs

"Yeah. If you noticed during the show, that's actually where I get my stance from."

"How old were you?" I ask, but before she can answer we were interrupted by a voice

"Yeah! How old were you?"

"Shut up Connie!!"

"Look who's talking Sasha!!"

Ruby gets up and opens the door, only to reveal Hanji, Eren, Mikasa, Auruo, Eld, Gunther, Petra, and the rest by the door listening to our conversation

"You know if you guys wanted to see me you guys could have knocked on the door." Ruby said as she let them into the room

"Yeah but then.... We heard you guys talking and it sounded pretty interesting." Hanji explained, I saw Ruby blush

"How much of our conversation did you guys listen to?" She asked still blushing, Hanji smiled

"About the part where you said you didn't want Levi's or anyone else's pity and that all you wanted was respect." Hanji replied "Also I'll be asking Lin about why you were blushing during the show." She whispered but I could still hear her

"Anyways... can you answer the question?" Connie asked

"What question?" Ruby asked

"How old were you when you left the circus?" Connie answered, she looked away

"I was 10, it was a little while after the fall of wall Maria." She answered, still looking away

"How long did you stay after the old ring master disappeared?" Sasha asked

"Well he disappeared when I was 6 so-" she was about to say

"What! You stayed their for 4 years!?" Eren shouted "Even when he beat you!" He shouted

"Well.... it..... it was painful but me and my family were doing the thing we enjoyed, until I was 8....." She trailed

"What happened when you were 8?" Hanji asked

"I witnessed my fathers murder." She muttered but everyone still heard her

"What!? Who murdered him!?" I asked

"Who do you think? The current ring master." They all gasped but I stayed expressionless "he murdered my father because my father kept going against him and wouldn't break, so he killed him." She admitted

"Does the ring master know you saw him?" Sasha asked

"No! If he did I wouldn't be alive right now!" She yelled "but I think he probably thought I did because he beat quite often after that, or that was probably because he just didn't like my father, I don't know." She added

"What made you decide to leave the circus?" Hanji asked

"My mom re married and the man she married was our way out, since he didn't work in the circus, he was the technician for it but when we left he stopped working for the circus and started working for someone else." She explained, we all nodded

By the time we were all tired it was already midnight, so we all said good night and went to our rooms..... but there was something wrong...... Wrong with my heart 'I should probably go see a doctor about this, but now that I think about it my heart seems to act like this around Ruby.' I think as I head to my room.
