Chapter 7

Sam

I was woken up by my wolf alerting me that someone was coming our way. I looked around, hearing heavy footsteps coming my way. I tried to get up and run but before I could move a muscle, a strong voice speaks from behind me, making me freeze in my tracks.

"Don't even think about running away." a strong voice say from behind me. Slowly, I turned around to see a tall, blonde, and blue-eyed man staring at me with a cautious expression on his face.

"I-I'm sorry, I didn't know that I trespassed your territory. I'll leave right now, just please don't kill me." I whimpered, feeling my heart beat faster and faster out of nervousness. The man's eyes softened before a small grin appeared on his face, he's still cautious, but he looks slightly relaxed now.

"Don't worry, I won't kill you. I'm Cameron, the alpha of the third most powerful pack in the world. What are you doing in my territory?" Cameron asks with a friendly expression on his face.

I looked at him stunned. Normally, alphas like him would kill someone for trespassing in their land without a second thought, my old alpha included.

"Um, I was trying to run away from my mate," I replied in a slightly confused voice. He looked at me with a questioning look on his face when he noticed the confusion in my voice. I blushed before looking down at my feet and mumbled out an answer.

"I-It's just that, other alphas would kill people who trespass in their land without a second thought. Why aren't you killing me yet?" I asked, looking at him under my lashes.

He looked at me for a second before chuckling, shaking his head. I blushed and looked away, feeling embarrassed.

"I'm not like those other alphas, I listen to the reason to why they trespassed in my land, and if their answer seems like a good and truthful reason, I would just let them go. Normally, if they were ordered by someone else to trespass into my land, I would give them a fair trial and decide if they should be set free or executed." Cameron explains. I look at him in shock. He's different from the other Alphas. A whole lot different from my old alpha. I can already tell that he's a great alpha, and he's loved by his pack.

"Why don't you follow me into the packhouse and tell me the whole story as to why you ran away from your mate, ya know?" Cameron said, giving me a friendly smile. I gave him a shy smile in return and followed him to his pack house.

As we were walking into his pack house, people started looking at me, making me feel slightly uncomfortable. We made our way into the packhouse and into his office, he told me to sit down on one of the chairs in front of his desk. I sat down and waited for him to start asking questions.

"So, why did you run away from your mate?" Cameron asks curiosity etched onto his face.

I told him the story starting from my parents, my old pack, the abuse, and getting captured. He listened carefully as I was telling him my story, giving me a sympathetic look once I was done. I took in a shaky breath, trying to get my breathing back to normal.

"And that's how I got here," I finished.

He was silent for a moment before coming around his desk and giving me a hug. I tensed, not used to the feeling of someone's arms around me other than my mate. My wolf was whining, telling me to get away from the man who's giving me comfort because he's not our mate. I listened to her and moved away from Cameron, giving him an apologetic smile. He gave me a sheepish smile and went back to his chair behind the desk.

"Don't worry, I'm sure everything will be okay. Your mate will protect you and if you ever need extra help, just give me a call. I'm only one call away," he said, giving me a smile I smiled back, feeling happy that someone's willing to help me from my old pack.

The phone suddenly started to ring, making me and Cameron look at the phone. He picked it up and started talking to the person on the other side.

"Don't worry Xander, I'm sure you'll find your mate," Cameron said to the person on the other side of the phone while giving me a pointed look. I threw him a panicked glance but he just gave me a smile.

He hung up the phone and told me that it was Xander, looking for his mate.

"Xander called, he told me that he found his mate about a day ago, but she's missing. He couldn't feel her presence in his territory." Cameron explained.

A feeling of guilt suddenly hit me like a tidal wave. I didn't mean to make him worry, I just wanted him and his pack safe from my old pack. I know that Xander could win a fight against my old pack since his pack is the second most powerful pack in the world, but my old pack is not that far behind. They're the fifth most powerful pack in the world. If it were to come to a fight, I know that Xander could win it. I have faith in him, but I don't want people dying and getting hurt because of me.

"You can stay here for as long as you want. I won't force you to return to your mate," Cameron told me, giving me a gentle smile. I smiled gratefully at him before a pack member knocks on the door to let Cameron know that food's being served.

"Would you like something to eat?"

"No, thank you. I'm feeling kind of tired." I replied.

"Alright. Would you like for me to show you where you will be staying?"

I nodded at him. He gestured for me to follow him through the hallway. We stopped in front of a door. Cameron opened it to reveal a small guest room.

"Sorry, it's kind of small. Some pack members are occupying the other rooms for whatever reason," Cameron explained.

"It's fine. Thank you for your help," I smiled at him.

"No problem. Well, I will eave you to it. Just come to my office if you need something, or you can ask one of the pack members." he said before turning around and leaving me alone in my room.

I walked over to the bed and lied down, feeling my muscles relax as soon as my body hit the mattress. I thought about how I would apologize to Xander when I come back and how I would explain why I ran away. I didn't notice that I was falling asleep until I couldn't open my eyes anymore out of exhaustion.
