Sam

Cameron looked at me and his grin widened.

"Hey, Sam! How have you been?" He asked.

I smiled back shyly.

"Great, what about you, Cameron?" I asked him back.

I can feel Xander tensing up behind me before I felt his arms wrap around my waist in a possessive manner. I laid against his chest and put my hand on his arms, caressing softly to calm him down.

"I've been great. I see that your mate is still possessive of you as ever?" Cameron asked in a joking manner, gesturing at Xander's arms wrapped around me in a steel-like grip.

"Yup, possessive as ever. It gets kind of tiring if you ask me," I replied jokingly. After hearing my words, I started to feel a low rumble coming from Xander's chest. I turned around, still in his arms, and kissed him on the lips.

"Relax, I was joking. I will never get tired of your possessiveness of me." I told him before turning back around to face Cameron once again.

"I didn't know that you were stopping by to 'join us for dinner', Cameron," Xander said in a hard tone, spitting Cameron's name as if the name tasted bad in his mouth.

"Oh, I told your guards not to tell you because I wanted to surprise Sam," Cameron said, winking in my direction. I blushed and smiled at him.

"Did you come here to discuss something with me or to flirt with my mate? If that's the case then go find your own mate." Xander growled out.

I gave Xander a warning look but he ignored it and muttered a 'mine!' before burying his face in the crook of my neck. I looked back at Cameron, feeling worried that Xander offended him, but he didn't seem affected by his words.

"Aw, that's too bad. I would miss flirting with Sam if I happen to find my mate this soon." Cameron said, fake pouting before chuckling at what he said.

I could feel Xander starting to get annoyed, so I told Cameron to stop.

"Why don't we all go inside and have dinner. You must be hungry, Cameron." I told him, walking into the kitchen to get another plate for the guest.

"Hungry? I'm starving! I hope you cooked up something good." He said.

I put the plate on the end of the table and passed Cameron some chicken and vegetables.

"Why are you here?" Xander asked bluntly while shoving some chicken in his mouth.

Cameron paused to swallow his food before answering, his goofy expression turning into a serious one in a matter of seconds. I guess it's an Alpha thing to be able to turn your facial expressions that quickly.

"Some rogues have been attacking my land and hurting some of my pack members. I was able to catch one and get some information out of him. Apparently, they're looking for a female rogue who ran away from her old pack a few weeks ago." Cameron said, taking a glance my way before focusing his attention back to Xander.

I froze. I can feel my stomach dropping at the mention of the rogues and what they did to his pack members. I could feel Xander's gaze burning a hole at the side of my face, but I refuse to look at either one of them. What else could they possibly want? Tyler already knows where I am, isn't that enough?

I could feel my hunger disappearing. I put my fork down and wiped my mouth with a napkin.

"Please excuse me, my hunger seems to have disappeared. I'll be up in our bedroom", I told them before pushing my chair away and heading upstairs.

I pushed the door open and closed it behind me before making my way to the bed. I sat down and brought my hands up to my face. Why can't they leave me alone? Ten years of abuse and they still want to hurt me until there's nothing left in me but an empty shell. I know that I have to keep trying and fighting, but this is becoming too much. I don't know what to do anymore. I try to be strong, but sometimes even strong people break down too. We all have our reaching points, and I have reached mine years ago. I need to escape my past in order to get to my future.

I stood up and went back downstairs. I heard Xander and Cameron talking, but they stopped as soon as they saw me.

"I'm going to the packhouse. I'll be right back." I told them with a fake smile before going outside, not bothering to wait for their reply.

It took me fifteen minutes to get to the packhouse. I entered and saw little kids playing in the big living room. The sight made me smile. I decided to explore the house and maybe make some new friends.

I met new people, saw friendly smiles, and smiling faces of the people. I talked to them, smiled back, and made conversation. I was finally being a proper Luna, getting to meet her pack members as they should.

As I was walking down a hallway, I saw three teenage girls whispering and giggling to themselves. As I passed by them, they stopped their conversation and gave me a bow and big smiles. I returned their smiles, feeling excited and happy. But, of course, it didn't last long as I heard what they were saying about me.

"I don't see what the Alpha sees in her. Like she seems nice and she's pretty and all, but I know that our Alpha can do better."

"Oh shut up Kimberly, she's our Luna. She had a tough past, so please be respectful to her."

"Yeah, yeah."

My heart broke. I decided to ignore it, but that doesn't mean that it didn't hurt. I let out a sigh of defeat and decided to get back to our house before Xander becomes worried.

It took me another fifteen minutes to get back to our house. The house was quiet when I entered, but I know that Xander was in the house. I made my way upstairs and into our bedroom to see him laying down on the bed.

As soon as I entered, his head snapped up and his eyes met mine. We gazed at each other for a while before I decided to look away. I went into the walk-in-closet and decided to change into some comfortable clothes. I got out of the closet and headed towards the bed where Xander was waiting for me.

I climbed in the bed and snuggled close into my mate. I could feel his heart beating under my palm. No words were spoken as time passed by. Before I knew it, I was close to falling asleep, but before I did I felt Xander plant a kiss on my forehead.

"Sleep, my love."

And I was out like a light with thoughts about what the future may bring us.
