Chapter 47

Sam

I stared at her form, looking smaller than she actually was as she curled into a ball and cried for her mate. I felt my heartbreaking as her cries grew louder and turned into sobs. I turned away, holding back my tears as my wolf howled at the pain of one of our pack members.

I looked at Aurora and crouched down to try and help her stop the bleeding that the bite mark left her.

"Everything will be okay," I whispered. Who was I saying it to? Who knows. Maybe Aurora, Adriana, or even myself.

Helplessness filled my entire being as I continued tending Aurora's wound. What am I doing down here? What is happening in the field? How many members did we lose? What happened to Dean and Tyler?

Questions ran through my head at fifty miles per hour, not even noticing that my careful movements and touches had stopped. A hand was placed gently on my shoulder, startling me and snapping me out of my thoughts.

"Are you okay?" Aurora asked, her voice turning soft despite her pained expression.

I smiled weakly before looking back down and continuing to tend to Aurora's wounds, with Adriana's sobs and cries filling the space surrounding us.

Things were quiet for a few moments before the sound of multiple footsteps approaching us caught my attention. I sat up and turned in the direction of the sound source.

Guards, in their wolf forms, bowed before a majority of them shifted back to their normal form, the remaining choosing to stay in their wolf forms.

"Luna," they said.

"The alpha is looking for you," one of the guards said, looking straight at me.

Adriana made a move to stand up, having quieted down at the sound of the guards, making the guards tense and the shifted wolves snap at her. Adriana flinched and cowered back, inching closer to me, making the guards' growls grow louder.

"Enough," I said authoritatively. The growls ceased at the sound of my voice before focusing on me once more, a few still giving Adriana menacing looks.

"I want half of you to take Aurora to the infirmary and get her treated, immediately," I emphasized, "while the rest of you lead me and Adriana to where everyone else is. No one is to touch her. Do you all understand?" I asked, looking at each of them.

"Yes, Luna," they chorused, all positioned in a bow.

"Well, let's get to it. Make sure that a pack doctor gets to Former Luna Aurora. Someone take the lead to Xander," I commanded, waiting for the guards to take Aurora away. I waited until they were out of sight before giving the guard next to me an expectant look.

"Right this way, Luna," he said before shifting back to his wolf form and running off in the direction of the clearing with the rest of us following behind.

The metallic smell of blood greeted us as we got closer to the clearing followed by the visible sight of it. The trees, grass, and rocks were painted in red. Dead bodies laid everywhere with some torn up to pieces. People were picking up the bodies and compiling them to the side. Blood oozed out of the bodies getting dragged, painting the ground red even more. I winced at the sight.

"Samantha," Xander's voice boomed. My head snapped up at the sound, and the sight of Xander marching towards me made my wolf howl in joy. I ran up to him and met him in the middle, jumping on him and almost making him stumble. He wrapped his arms around my wolf's body, making my wolf purr and whine in response.

Xander nuzzled my wolf's head, tightening his hold on us.

"I missed you," he whispered. My wolf whined louder and her tail wagged faster making him chuckle.

I shifted in my human form, not caring about the eyes watching our every move. Xander growled loudly and turned us around so that his body was covering my naked one.

"Samantha!" Xander snapped. I looked at him blankly.

"This is not the time for you to get jealous and possessive. How many members did we lose?" I asked him.

Xander stopped growling, but he still had an annoyed expression painted on his face.

"Overall, we lost a total of 200 men. Cameron lost a total of 150 men. Your brothers' pack on the other hand . . ." Xander trailed off, a smirk growing on his face. My wolf started fawning over our mate and "how handsome" he was. I rolled my eyes at her and told her to be quiet.

"We killed almost all of their warriors, some of them escaping. However, our men are after them right now to take them as prisoners," Xander finished.

I hummed in response, deep in thought, when all of a sudden, pain in my stomach erupted, making me gasp in surprise and hunch over.

"Samantha!" Xander exclaimed, catching me by my waist and preventing me from hitting the ground. I coughed as the pain started to spread from my stomach to my torso, and finally, to my chest.

"I-it . . . h-hurts," I rasped, feeling my vision blur. I blinked my eyes multiple times to try and get my vision straight again, but all of my attempts were futile.

"Get a doctor! Now!" Xander bellowed out, looking around at the people in the clearing. At the sound of Xander's words, the people started running around, trying to find the pack doctor.

"I-I'm . . . fine," I wheezed out, wrapping my arms around my middle as the pain continued to spread.

"Just stop talking, baby. The doctor will be here soon," Xander assured me, dropping kisses all over my face in an attempt to soothe and comfort me. An involuntary whimper escaped my lips, making Xander's head snap up in alarm.

"You'll be okay. You'll both be okay, I promise. Just hang in there for me, okay? You're so strong, baby. Both of you are so strong," Xander whispered relentlessly against my skin.

"I'm here. I'm not going anywhere, I promise. I won't leave you. I would rather die than leave the both of you here in pain. I will protect you until my last breath," Xander breathed.

I brought my hand up, slowly and shakily, and put it on his cheek. My thumb caressed his face, and he leaned into my touch, giving a deep breath.

"I love you. You were the best thing that happened to me. Don't ever forget that," I whispered weakly before starting to feel my consciousness slipping out of my fingers.

"Stay with me, Samantha! Please!" Xander begged, shaking my head slowly. I gave him a weak smile.

"Where is the fucking doctor?! Samantha! Please! I love you," Xander's cries were the last thing I heard before the darkness took over me and pulled me into a deep sleep.
