Chapter 46

Sam

Growls filled the air as my mate and so-called brother fought for their lives, and for my blood.

I stood anxiously as I watched them try to rip each other's throat out. I wanted to help Xander out, but I couldn't do that because Dean was still holding onto me.

"Get out of here!" Xander's voice filled my head as he continued to fight Tyler.

"I can't! Dean is still holding onto me," I answered in distress. I want nothing more than to help him.

He turned in my direction and looked at Dean's form as if just noticing him. He quickly bit onto Tyler's shoulder and threw him on the ground before going for Dean.

I felt Dean tense behind me before he threw me on the ground, making me hiss as my side made contact with rocks, and shifted into his wolf.

Xander's moves are swift and ruthless, tearing my brothers' flesh as every second passed by. He sunk his teeth into Dean's side and bit down making him howl in agony. He ripped a good chunk of flesh before looming over my brother who was trying to get up from the floor.

"What are you doing here still? I thought I told you to leave, did I not?" Xander's voice growled out in my head, making me flinch.

"I . . . I know, but I don't want to leave you," I whispered back.

Xander growled out as Tyler stood back up and lunged at him. He tried to take a bite out of my mates' neck, but Xander was just too quick.

"Go! Check on my mom for me . . . please?" His voice responded.

I hesitated before nodding. I ran back and turned around one more time to look at Xander before running back to Aurora. Growls and the smell of blood filled the once serene forest.

"Aurora?" I called through the mind link. No answer.

I was starting to become nervous. What if something happened to her? What if she's too injured to even respond? What if . . . she's. No! I have to stay positive. I shook my head and continued to run.

I heard the growls from behind me. I clenched my fist and willed myself to run faster. I know my mate can take care of himself.

"Aurora?" I called as I stopped. I looked around and found her lying on the ground. I gasped and quickly ran up to her and put her head on my lap.

"Aurora, please tell me you're alive," I pleaded as I turned her onto her back and listened for a pulse or anything that will indicate that she's alive.

"Yes, I'm alive," a voice answered weakly. I looked at her face to see her smiling weakly at me.

"You're alive!" I exclaimed happily. She chuckled but ended up coughing blood instead. My smile was instantly replaced by a frown.

"Aurora . . . ?" I whispered.

"I'm . . . fine," she muttered as she tried to get back on her feet. I looked down and saw a giant bite mark on her side. I gasped.

"No, you're not. Just stay here for a while. I'm going to mind link Xander and see how everything is going," I told her.

"Xander?" I called out. Silence.

"Xander? You better be alive and well or I swear to all that is good and holy that—" I was cut off by a chuckle.

"Sorry. I had to . . . dispose of something," Xander replied darkly. I felt my heart drop at his words. He couldn't mean . . .

"Oh. Well, I just wanted to inform you that I found Aurora and we're hiding behind a tree near the packhouse. We're staying here while waiting for people to come." I told him.

"Stay there and don't move. I'll send some guards to get you guys."

"Got it," I answered before cutting off the mind link.

I looked down at Aurora to see her sleeping. Her steady breaths were the only indication that she's alive, which was more than enough for me.

After a few minutes of anxious waiting, I heard footsteps running in our direction. My head quickly turned to see the guards that Xander have sent. I quickly stood up to make sure that they know where we were.

Once they saw me, they came to a stop and bowed.

"Luna," they all said in unison. I gave them a smile.

"I hope you all are doing well," I told them while gesturing to their bloodied form. They all looked down at their form and gave a stiff nod.

I sighed and leaned on the tree trunk as my mind flooded with thoughts that occurred in the past hours before this whole mess began.

Everything happened because of me. Lives were lost because my brothers wanted to kill me for "killing" our parents. How can a seven-year-old kill two grown wolves? Fully trained and mature wolves. A third in command for that matter as well. Did that not ever crossed their minds? What kind of fools believes in such a story? I scoffed.

Everybody was oblivious and did not care for what I had to say. Everything I said was wrong. They only believed what they wanted to believe. They may have been my parents' old pack and family, but they were never mine. I wouldn't consider them anything for the world.

Now that I think about it, they never considered me anything, so why should I? Bitter and hateful thoughts started to build up in me the more I think about my old pack. They were all fools.

I shook my head and let out a sigh. I shouldn't think of anything about my old pack, even though they deserved all the hate they can get.

"Sam? Where are you?" A familiar voice called. I stood up and turned around to see Adriana heading my way. As soon as her eyes landed on me, she broke into a sprint and hugged me tightly.

"Thank goodness you're alright," she said. She glanced behind me and saw Aurora's sleeping form. She looked back at me and at Aurora.

"She's alive, right?" she said slowly. I nodded. Adriana sighed in relief.

"Let's stay here for a while. I'm waiting for Liam to show his butt. He better be alive or I swear to God I will resurrect him and kill him myself before joining him in the darkest pits of hell," she said jokingly, but I could see the pain worry behind her words and in her eyes.

I'm still having mixed feelings about Adriana after what she did to our pack, and to her own mate. I understood why, but at the same time, I don't.

"Hey, you okay? How's the baby?" Adriana asked softly, gesturing to my stomach.

I looked down and wrapped my arms around my stomach. Such a young, innocent unborn child shouldn't be seeing or hearing the crimes of the cruel world.

I looked at her and gave a weak smile.

"We're . . . fine." For now.

She gave me a look as if she didn't believe me, but slowly nodded her head.

"Any news on your mate?" I asked her.

Her face dropped and her shoulders hunched over before she covered her face and let out a sob.

"I. . . don't. . . know," she sniffled. "I don't know anymore. He's hurt. I can feel it, but I can barely feel the mate bond and it's hurting me and my wolf," she cried.

"He may never forgive me, but I don't care as long as he's alive. I'll do anything just to make sure that he lives a long and healthy life, even if it meant giving up my own." She put her head on her knees as she let out silent sobs for her mate.
