I had noticed Delilah starting to walk out, so I muttered a quick “Be right back.” to James and transported outside, just before Delilah got there, I casually leaned against the wall.
“You know, getting up and leaving like that isn’t very nice,” I said just as she walked out, startling her. She emmitted a small gasp.
“URGH! CAN’T YOU FREAKING PEOPLE JUST LEAVE ME THE HAYSTACK ALONE?!” She settled angrily into her fighting stance, and I copied. “ARGH!”
“Argh, to you to. No ‘hello?’ Really? I’m feeling the warm welcome emanating off you right now.” I responded.
“YOU LOCKED ME IN A FREAKING HOSPITAL! HOW DO YOU THINK I”M GOING TO REACT?”
“Well, sorry, we didn’t know you didn’t like hospitals. You were DYING for Pete’s sake! I didn’t know what to do! I was worried about you!”
“WELL, SORRY! NEXT TIME, ASK ASTRAL.” She growl-yelled at me. “Where is he, anyway?”
“In your necklace. He wanted to be with you no matter what happened, and he was freaking out a lot, so he just kinda escape’d.”
“Oh.” She seemed to be calming down a little, but I wouldn’t force her to come with us, no matter how much we needed her for this job.
“Do you want to come home? Or do you need to cool down some more?” I asked.
“YOU REALLY THINK I”M ALL RIGHT? EVEN IF ASTRAL WAS THERE, HE DIDN’T SHOW FACE! I JUST WANTED TO SEE HIM! OK?” She was definetly not calming down.
“Okay, James and I’ll just head back to the hotel. You meet us up there when you’re ready, seen as we can’t exactly finish the mission without you.”
And Delilah stalked off.
~Delilah~
Jeez. She had some nerve! Just waltzing into my alone time like that.
I stalked off into the forest, tears falling down my face, which was hot with embarrassment. For awhile I just stomped around, not really caring about who saw me, or my temper. After a few minutes, exhaustion caught up with me. I stopped, and slumped up against a tree, and slid until I hit the ground. My arms were sore from firing my bow earlier, since I hadn’t in a long time. My legs were sore, my head ached, and overall, I was miserable.
I pulled out my cell phone. I saw that I had 32 unread messages, and most of them were from James and Tay. I felt terrible for yelling at her. I glanced up at the moon crossing the sky. It was about 9 at night. With a small frown, I knew that I needed to go back. My boss always told me that my sudden bursts of ‘unpleasantnesses’, as he would call them, would not be accepted on the field. I needed to hold my feelings, especially the ones about my parents.
I suddenly felt a touch on my shoulder. Glancing up, I saw Astral. He stared at me; a small frown touched his lips. His eyes were clouded with concern. I couldn’t help it; I broke down into tears. I felt his touch once more. I glanced up at his blurred figure. “I’m so sorry! I’m such a bad person… I-I-“He pulled me into a tight hug. “Shush. I’m not here to yell at you. Any other person would have done the same. But you should be glad you have such good friends. They accept that you need to be left alone right now. If it were others… Let’s just say you probably wouldn’t see them again.
“You should be happy that you have such good friends. And you know that they’ll expect you to do the same for them. Correct?” I manage a nod. “Good girl. I really, really love you. You’re excepting of almost everything. You’re smart, cute, and plain funny. You can be a bit harsh sometimes, but that’s all part of the game. You can be very emotional at some points, but at others, you’re just plain blocked. No one can read your emotions, not even me. But that all describes you, and I love every part of it. Come on, we should get back. Okay?”
Dang, I love this guy. I peeked up over his shoulder, and he burst out laughing. “You’re just so cute!” he cried, kissing my forehead.
Standing up, he held out a hand. I took it, and in a blur, I was on my feet. I picked up my bow, put my phone in my pocket, and took Astral’s hand. He smiled a brilliant smile that I returned. We headed for our makeshift home in the hotel.
