That night Catalina was to afraid to go to the room in which she shared with Javier. She went and slept in her art room on the couch beneath the window.
No man had ever hit her before and now that one had, she didn't know how to react...didn't know how to continue on with herself. She felt hatred towards him and towards herself, how could she just let that happen.
She fell asleep, crying silent tears and staring at the moon. Some how it comforted her and that relaxed her a little.
When she woke up, it was really early, It couldn't have been pasted two or three in the morning. She was woken up by a loud crashing sound followed by loud screaming. She couldn't quite make out what the person was saying but after listening for a while she realized that the voice belonged to Javier.
She sat up and stared at the door, she wasn't sure whether or not she should go and check on him. After all he had hit her just a few hours ago and it didn't sound like he was in any better mood.
She waited a moment and was very hesitant as she got up and went to the door. She opened it a little and listen, she could still hear him yelling and screaming. She didn't want to go outside of the room where she was safe but decided that he was her husband after all. She was to nice and forgiving to not at least go and see how he was.
She opened the door the rest of the way and slowly walked down the hallway, following his voice to the main room where he was. When she entered the room he was standing at the fireplace staring at a picture, She couldn't see who the picture was of.
She walked a little further into the room and quietly said his name.
"Javier" she said her voice barely above a whisper, but he didn't turn around so she said it once again.
"Javi" she said just a little louder then before. This time he turned around. He had a full glass in his hand with the picture in the other.
He looked at her with a look that said so much, she saw sadness, dread, fear, pain and regret. All these emotions crossed his handsome face and Catalina felt a touch of sadness and pity for him.
He smiled at her weakly " venir aquí mi felicidad" he said to her and took a step closer to her. She didn't want to get closer to him and didn't want him to get closer to her, she wanted to stay a safe distance away from him.
She didn't understand why he called her his happiness because it always seemed like she could do nothing right by him, everything she did was wrong. She thought he hated her.
When she stepped away from him, his facial expression changed from a small smile to a frown. It hurt him that she was afraid of him. He didn't want it to be that way but his past actions made it hard for him to change that.
He throw the picture frame to the ground and the glass shattered when it hit the floor. Catalina flinched hard. She moved even further away from him, but even from where she was standing she could tell that the picture was of his father.
"Por favor" he begged her to come closer. He just wanted to...some how show her that he really didn't mean to hit her earlier and that he didn't want a relationship where she was afraid of him.
She couldn't bring herself to move closer to him or to even say anything. She wasn't sure if she should run away or stay where she was, but while she was thinking of what to do he moved closer to her. Right before he reached her she realized it and turned to run away but she only got a few steps before he caught her bu her wrist. He pulled her to him, he looked at her with pleading eyes.
