Demi was performing her last song for the night and I for one wasn't going to miss it. She was actually behaving herself this entire time and didn't disappear like usual. As she took center stage for her final song, I stood backstage watching her from the corner. She seemed to be happy and at peace with everything in the spotlight. It was there where she was her most content. Her voice made the stadium shake as I sung along to the vibrating music. I had previously ended my set and now stood in my leotard and boots. I'm sure the shine from my outfit caught on some of the audience's flashing cameras.
My favorite part was always when Demi hit the high notes. Her song was coming to a close, just as she opened her mouth to belt the final tunes, bubbles, confetti and foam began to burst from the ceiling. I happily screamed with the fans, as cheering ensued. Demi thanked everyone and turned to run off stage. I was standing in her way and as she came towards me, I stretched my arms out to hug her.
"I loved it!" I squealed.
"You say that every night."
"And I mean it." I pulled away just as we both took the ramp down to our dressing rooms. We split ways as I gathered my items together and Nick knocked on the door before letting himself in.
"My flight leaves in three hours." He sighed, his eyes studying me carefully as he walked over.
"I promise to call you if you promise to answer." I wrapped my arms around him as he shrugged.
"I mean, I guess."
"Ha-ha."
"I'll miss you."
"I miss you already." I let him know, kissing him gently as a knock came to the door. We pulled away as to my surprise, Demi walked in. She was always up to her own thing, tonight she proved me very wrong on knowing her habits.
"Can I say goodbye to my friend too?" She asked me as I smiled and let them have their space. I rolled my clothes out into the hall before catching a few of our dancers running. They weren't stopping, making their way towards me as I quickly got out of the way. I watched as water balloons and those filled with whip cream began to fly at Nick. He was practically soaked and covered from head to toe as laughter broke out.
"I'm going to kill you Demi!" He called out to the brunette as she flipped her hair.
"You gotta catch me first." Her voice only caused him to playfully charge at her as everyone began screaming and darting back from where they came. I would be so happy when they all quit with the childish antics. I understood it was fun, but he had a flight to catch and he couldn't be late.
There was no proper goodbye when Nick left for the airport. I made sure to tell him I'd see him later and to call. He was more distraught than I was. He enjoyed my company more than I could understand. My bus was quiet and empty as Nancy drove towards the next arena. I hadn't checked my emails in a while and did so on my laptop as we drove through the night. It was never a fun experience to say 'see you later' to anyone. As I scrolled through my emails I had found one reading, 'URGENT.' It had been written a few days ago by my manager back in LA, also known as mom. She had informed me about an arena change on the last date of tour, as well as a need for a new raw song. I would call her in the morning, but typed up a quick email before heading off to bed.
By daybreak I was well rested, my hair pinned up as I met everyone in front of the venue. The crazy thing was, it was outside. This past month we haven't had one concert under the elements, and today wasn't a good day to test it. The sky was graying, the wind was chilled and I was pretty sure rain would soon pour down. I dialed my mom right away as we all made it into the arena.
