~ Selena ~

I couldn't sleep. The penthouse was quiet and practically lifeless as I sat up in bed next to Taylor. My heart hadn't stopped pounding in my chest for over an hour now and I was honestly about to lose it. I couldn't think straight and although I knew Demi only chose to kiss me because she despised Taylor, it still shook me to the core. The way her eyes burned into mine as if she was seeking my soul kind of scared me. Taylor joked that she was a death eater from Harry Potter and I should stay away from her. But I couldn't.

I crawled out of bed before walking out into the living room where the only light shone from a small lamp in the corner. Everyone had gone to bed, either sleeping or catching up on late night shows or what have you. The second I laid eyes on Demi's door I stopped in my tracks. I couldn't go in there. I was overreacting and she was probably just doing this to piss Robert off. He complained to me earlier that day that Demi wouldn't even let him really come near her. She was set on making him suffer for wanting her. I crossed my arms, pacing around the three sofas and tables that set up the room.

"Just go to bed." I told myself. "Just go to bed." I repeated, before stopping at the brunette's door. The coffee must have mixed in with my earlier adrenaline and caused my heart to pound so loudly. "This is stupid." I pointed out. There was no real plan on what I was going to say to the woman when she and I were once again together. It was a game, I participated in it. That was all. But if that was the case, why did I feel a hint of guilt wash over me? "Ugh." I toss my hands up into the air, turning back to make it towards my room and into bed. But before I could make it, the faint sound of laughter echoed from the balcony. Through the dark I made my over towards the door to find Marissa and Demi swimming in the pool.

"I've written the chorus." Demi piped up, doing a back stroke as her friend looked on.

"Maybe I can hear it before I leave in the morning."

"I really wish you'd stay longer." Demi sighed, dunking herself under the liquid as the blue light shimmered across the surface. I hadn't noticed my breathing until the glass I hid behind slowly fogged before fading, repeating a few times before I pushed it open. Marissa faced me, her eyes narrowing in my direction as I silently waved.

"How long have you been spying on us?" She questioned me.

"I just got up and heard you guys. Shouldn't Demi be asleep by now?" I mentioned just as the brunette came up from the pool's water to get air. She brushed her fingers across her face before her eyes found mine.

"Selena, what are you doing up?" Demi's freckles covered her cheeks and nose, a rare sight when she wore makeup.

"I was going to ask you the same thing. We have a show tomorrow." My concern was no match for Demi's hypnotizing gaze. She lowered her chin onto her crossed hands, peering over the poolside directly at me.

"She and I," Marissa spoke, "were just discussing her very sensual song."

"Sensual? What?" I hadn't gazed at the woman now sitting on the lawn chair. Demi was still in the water, rolling her eyes at her friend before she pushed herself onto the cement. I watched as she slowly stood, water sliding off of her and straight onto the ground leaving puddles in her wake.

"I can't control what my head wants." Demi winked, pulling up a towel before she joined Marissa at her side. "I just hope I'm not forced to come up with something else at the last minute. How about you, any luck?"

"Song writing? Not a chance." I hadn't moved from the double glass patio doors since I stepped outside. My back stayed against one of them as I kept my distance from my friend and Marissa. Somewhere in the back of my mind I was still replaying that kiss from hours ago and I couldn't get it out of my head.
