It was a warm new-leaf dawn. Everything was still and quiet. It was so peaceful and perfect. The sun was just peeking over the hills.
"NOO! Not Mapletail!" Icestar's yowl echoed. Not him.
"Rainwhisker, Fetch Echomist." She stared at the young warrior expectantly. The tom was staring in horror at Icestar.
"NOW RAINWHISKER! I think he's hurt." Icestar started sobbing. She was the leader that never showed pain in front of her warriors. She was too proud. Rainstorm ran forward to comfort the grieving she cat. Echomist raced into the clearing and checked the limp tom.
"I'm sorry Icestar, but Mapletail is dead." Echomist mewed. The pretty medicine cat was searching Icestar's gaze for something unseen by her Clanmates.
"Follow me." She told her leader. Icestar followed Echomist into her den and sat down with her head on her paws.
"Echomist, he is the third cat to be killed by those foxes. First Dawnpaw, then Lizardtooth and now Mapletail. Why is this happening?" Icestar asked grief still fresh in her eyes.
"I don't know. Starclan hasn't shown me anything, but I do find it odd. The foxes have always stayed to their part of the forest." Echomist sighed. It seemed as if she didn't actually believe Icestar. She looked up at the rising sun and gasped in shock. Icestar looked up worried that the foxes found the camp.
"Echomist what is it?" All Icestar saw was a sunrise. She put her head back down.
"It's a sign." Echomist breathed.
"What is?" Icestar mewed. She was still grieving, but now she was curious.
"The death of Mapletail, the early sunrises. How could I have not noticed..." Echomist trailed off,her eyes looking distant. Then she looked Icestar straight in the eyes. As fire met ice Echomist whispered,"The sun will force peace by bringing death."
