"What are we doing now? Hunting? Battle training? A BORDER PATROL!?" Lilypaw circled her mentor excitement flooding her from nose to tail. The other apprentices had already left and she was anxious to leave camp.
"Lilypaw! Calm down." Grayheart growled. Lilypaw tried sitting still but her tail was taunting her so she pounced on it.
"You are going to be a hard one to train, aren't you?" Grayheart mumbled.
"What are we doing?" Lilypaw asked.
"We should put your energy to good use let's go hunting." Grayheart started to lead the way to the river. Lilypaw followed in awe of every stone or blade of grass on the way there. When they finally arrived at the river there was a clearing where trees surrounded the opening and sunlight warmed the smooth rock surface. Lilypaw wanted to bask in the sun but she had a more important job.
"Lilypaw, get over here. All you have to do is dive in the water and catch a fish. Not even a kit could mess that up." Grayheart grumbled. Why did I have to get such a grumpy mentor. She dived into the cold river and swan around trying to find a fish.
"Not like that you fishbrain, you're scaring all the fish away!" Grayheart hissed at her. She was hot with anger towards the warrior, but she held her tongue. She dived again and saw fish. She caught one with her claws and brought it up to the river bank and lauded it down on the rocks. It was jumping around, desperate for water, but she held it down.
"Kill it for Starclans sake!" Grayheart growled. It was too late and the fish jumped back in the river.
"There goes the elders meal." Grayheart glared at the apprentice. Lilypaw's anger reached its limit and she exploded with rage.
"WELL, MAYBE IF YOU HELPED ME INSTEAD OF SUNNING YOURSELF I WOULD HAVE CAUGHT IT!" Lilypaw yelled at the warrior. Grayheart was about to speak but Lilypaw interrupted him.
"You are my mentor! I don't know why Icestar put me with a useless fishbrain but she did so you're stuck with me, Grayheart!" The last of Lilypaw's anger faded and she saw a shocked warrior crouching in front of her.
"Grayheart... I'm sorry I was mad I didn't catch the fish." She apologized. She felt shame burn her ears. He's a warrior and I'm just a small apprentice. Grayheart chuckled and licked his chest fur.
"Icestar said you would be a challenge. You have earned my respect young one. But to remember this I'm going to call you Ragepaw." The white warrior dipped his head to the young cat. Lilypaw was shocked as she had just earned a warrior's respect by yelling at him. Maybe Grayheart isn't as bad as I thought. Grayheart stood up and stretched.
"Come on let's get back to camp, Ragepaw."
