Eight

Eight:

The next day, I stood with my earphones in, leaning against a chain-link fence by the bus stop. I crossed my arms over my chest and tapped my fingers on my forearm to the bass in the song I was listening to at the moment. I looked up to see Andy's car pull up near me.

"Hey doll-face," he said, using my original nickname he gave me. I waved.

"Hey."

"Want me to take you?" he asked, glancing over at Janet, who was eyeing Andy lustfully and me hatefully. I shrugged, turning back to Andy.

"Sure, man." I got in the passengers seat and buckled my seat belt as Andy drove off.

"Thanks," I said. He nodded.

"No problem."

I was thankful. I didn't think I could stand the bus today.

We got to school and then walked around to our normal spot against the wall, after Andy had gone to his locker. When he got back he looked tired and confused. I wasn't sure why. We didn't really talk, just stood there being wallflowers together. It wasn't awkward, honestly. We didn't have to talk to communicate. It's like we could talk through our minds and emotions.

And right now I could tell something was up with him. It made my nerves itch. So I just pulled my earphones out and looked at Andy, who was looking at me. He smiled and waved. I chuckled and waved back. He pulled his earphones out.

"What's up?" he asked. I shrugged, spinning my right earbud like a propeller.

"I don't know, something is just off about you," I said uncertainly, looking up at him.

He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, and played with his fingers, that had a fresh coat of black nail polish on them. I twisted the ring he gave me around on my finger nervously. For some reason, I had a stomach sinking feeling that I didn't want to know what was up.

"Nothing's up," he answered too quickly for my assurance.

But I shrugged it off anyway, and we both put our earphones back into our ears. I found it kind of funny and cool that we were listening to the same song. I could hear the best of the bass when he took his earphones out earlier.

The rest of the day passed by uneventful. I didn't see much of Andy because he had gotten checked out in fourth, but not before he ran up to me and squeezed me into a ridiculous hug and we were both laughing while he told me that he was leaving for the day.

"Argh. Lucky," I muttered. He laughed and poked my stomach.

"Yes. Now get to class," he said, tickling me softly. I waved him off with a laugh as we parted ways.

So the rest of the day, I avoided the stares of pretty much all the people. Which mostly included the preps. I caught one making some weird ass faces at me and she only looked like a orange blonde hair constipated bobble head. But making faces? What, and we in preschool?

By the end of the day, I didn't want to ride the bus so I decided to walk home. But to my misfortune, so did Janet. She trailed me to the stop light.

"Hey freak," she called, turning me around. I sighed, bored, and looked at her.

"What do you want?" I hissed. She looked a little drawn back, but regained her posture after a moment.

"Oh, just telling you, to stay away from Andy. He's mine," she stated matter-of-factly. I furrowed my eyebrows, confused.

"I'm not sure what part of your little rat sized brain that gave you that idea, but you can't own a person. Let alone, Andy," I said tiredly. She huffed and inched closer, smacking her bubbling gum in my face. I could smell that she smoked.

"How dare you," she spat. I shrugged and wiped her saliva off my face.

"How dare you," I contoured. "Andy isn't yours."

"Says who?" she demanded. I laughed once.

"I'm pretty sure that if you go ask him yourself, that he'll tell you the sane thing I just told you," I said. I ended it there and turned to walk home. But it washer parting sentence that disturbed me.

"We'll see about that," she said.

"Ugh! Just leave me alone, Janet. You're more annoying than a damn fly," I whined. She smacked her gum again and turned with a huff, flipping her hair, and walked away.

I got home and ate something quick before I watched a movie with my parents. After the movie, which lasted till ten, I did the dishes as my patents went up to bed and when I finished and had fed the dogs, I went up to my broom myself. I pulled off my zip up hoodie and yanked my skinny jeans off, then crawled in my bed, putting my headphones in. I fell asleep soon.
