Nora POV:

I watched the cab go on with Kyle in the back seat.

Poor Kyle, his best friend is in the hospital and the only person to give him comfort was a random girl he met at one of his concerts. Kyle told me his girlfriend, Janna, is flying in tomorrow.

I like Janna, I follow her on Instagram, but Kyle had also told me a lot about her. From what he explained I gathered she's almost exactly like him.

I don't want to be one of those girls who is like 'I need a boyfriend to live', but sometimes it would be nice to have someone like that.

I haven't really been in a serious relationship, I think it's because I'm scared of commitment - not intensionally though! Just like this one time a guy and I were kind of going out, we just hadn't made it official, just when I realized how serious we were I pretty much took off running.

I live on the third floor of the apartment complex. We have this crazy guy about seventy years old that lives next to us, he's always going off about how the government is conspiring against us and all that classy crazy guys stuff, but he's actually really nice, that's why we haven't complained. He always is up early in the morning, today was no exception. We have a window at the end of our hall with my apartment next to it then his across the hall on the left side. He had it open with him sitting on a chair by it and resting his feet on the windowsill.

"Morning Nora!"

"Morning Tanner." I answered. Being five in the morning I wasn't really a people person, also considering the fact I haven't slept in twenty four hours.

"You're home late, working again?"

I shake my head grinning at the fact he remembers so much about me from our two minute conversations.

"Nah, not last night, I went to a concert and it didn't really go as planned."

He nodded. "Didn't Heather go with you?"

I shook my head, "No she canceled last minute and Louise had work so I just went alone."

"Oh... Hey! I have something for you!"

He reached around in a bag hooked onto the back of the chair and pulled out a boxed rapped in newspaper (he didn't believe in wrapping paper and for the life of me I have no idea why).

"Happy Birthday!"

I took it out of his hands. "Aw Tanner! You didn't have to do this!"

His grin got bigger "Of course I did, twenty four years of living is a big accomplishment!"

I got the newspaper off until I saw a simple brown box. I opening it I first noticed a note on top folded five times over.

I read it under my breath, "Dear Nora, Happy birthday. You are the most wonderful person and I'm happy you're apart of my life. Love Tanner."

"Oh Tanner!" I looked up from the note.

"Come on, come on, look at your present." He said still grinning.

Looking down I there was a necklace. It was very simple, it was a silver chain with a white marble stone in the middle. "Oh my gosh, this is amazing. Thank you!"

I threw my arms around him. "This is the sweetest gift anyone's ever given me!"

"Well I have to let you go now, the birds are coming out."

He does this a lot, getting distracted so easily. I just chuckle to myself and unlock my apartment door.

It was dark except for little light shining through our windows.
