I left the didn't care anymore about what my 'father' said. I was no longer a daughter to him. I didn't know whether to be happy or scared. So to clear my mind, I went outside and climbed to the rooftop. Up there I paced around for a while until I heard someone talking. It was coming from just a few buildings away and I wanted to know If I was being watched. I jumped over and placed a careful hand on my tanto sword (ninja weapon). I walked out a little more and was shocked at who I saw.
"Karai?" someone asked looking at me.
"Leo... I can explain" I said still hiding.
"You can come out you know" Mikey said walking to me.
Oh no! I would give away everything if they saw the other half of who I really was.
"Yeah come on Karai, it's just us" Leo urged.
I knew they weren't gonna give up so I slowly came out of the shadows. I can only guess what they were thinking. They were used to seeing a spontaneous teenage girl who wasn't afraid; not a young female assassin with a deadly ninja blade who was now cowering in fear. Their facial expression turned from happy fun to absolutely stunned and possibly traumatized.
"Well... that's a new look for you" Mikey said again.
"Yeah, would you kindly explain what you're doing dressed as a ninja?" Raph asked.
"What a girl can't play dress up every once in a while?" I yelled back a little angry.
Leo gave a sad look and gestured his brothers to leave.
"Alright Karai... what's going on?" he asked seriously.
"I can't tell you" I lied.
"Can't or won't? Because there's a difference" he corrected.
"I won't tell you. You'd think I'm a freak and wouldn't be friends with me" I said looking away from him sadly.
"Karai... I already told you I like you more than a friend. You really think that telling me a 'dirty' secret will change that?" he asked.
That changed my mind a little.
"Okay, I'll tell you. But you must promise not to bring it up ever again"I demanded.
He nodded and I started talking. Leo was a very good listener and hardly said a word but he actually listened and payed attention. The only part I left out was helping my 'father' track the man who murdered my mother.
"Wow, that's a lot to handle on your own. I'm really sorry Karai" he said pulling me into an awkward hug.
"Thanks it feels good knowing that a person on the outside knows the truth" I replied hugging him back.
"But can I ask one thing before I drop it?" Leo asked pulling away.
I nodded my head 'yes'.
"What's your dad's name again?" he asked.
"Horu Ku Saki. He's a martial artist and taught me everything I know" I explained.
"Oh" was all Leo said before getting up.
"You're leaving?" I said standing with him.
"Okay, well I'll see you in school tomorrow" I smiled.
"Sure" Leo said and walked away.
I called it a night and went back home.
