Katnis sat in her bed with her knees pulled up to her chest as she waited for Edward to come through her window. He and his family had been hunting for two days and he'd texted her and told her to unlock her window.  She had a feeling that she wasn't going to like whatever was going to transpire tonight. So, in order for her not to feel the pain of what could happen she did what she was good at.

She shut down.

She closed her eyes, put back up the walls she'd built around herself and shut down any and all her emotions. She wasn't going to allow herself to be hurt ever again. After the death of her mother, she'd promised herself to never allow anyone to hurt her again. If she could prevent herself from getting hurt, she'd do whatever she had to stop it. Though she knew whatever was going to happen tonight was going to hurt like hell.  She'd allowed herself to love him.  She's become so used to him being around that she looked forward to it.

She'd given Edward the power to hurt her and now she believes she's going to pay for it tonight.

"Katnis?" Bella entered her room, "Hey, is everything alright?"

Katnis meets her gaze,"Everything is fine." she says as she climbs out of bed and walks over to her window just as Edward appears in the window seal. She takes a few steps back as he opens it and climbs through.

"Hello, Bella." he says.

"Hello, Edward." she says.

He then turns his attention to Katnis who he notices doesn't have any kind of emotion on her face. He couldn't read her at all.

"We have to leave Forks." he blurts.

"What? Why?" Bella asked when Katnis stayed quiet.

He turns his gaze to Bella,"People are starting to notice that Carlisle isn't aging." he lies.

"When you say 'we'..."

"I mean my family and myself." he says,"You just don't belong in my world, Katnis."

"I don't?" she finally spoke.

"No, you don't."

"Of course not," she murmured. "Your family doesn't want me to come?" she meets his gaze.

He shakes his head,"I don't want you to come, Katnis."

She let's out a bitter chuckle,"You don't?"

"No."

She blinks a few times before nodding,"Alright. I guess this is it then."

He takes a step closer to her,"If it's not too much to ask...will you please promise me something? Don't do anything crazy or reckless. For your family's sake?" he says,"I won't come back. You can go on with your life without any interference from me or my family. It will be as if I never existed. I promise."

"Why are you doing this?" Bella snapped,"How can you just up and leave like this?"

"We have to. We don't have a choice," he says meeting her fiery gaze.

"So, you're just going to leave her just like that? Like she meant nothing to you?"

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry I let this go on for so long." he says,"She's just - she's not good for me."

"Not good for you? Are you kidding me! You're the vampire here! You're the one who almost killed her!" Bella snapped,"And you're saying she is not good for you!?"

Edward only stared at her.

"I thought you loved her!" Bella hissed.

Edward turns his gaze from her to Katnis and  takes another step in her direction but she takes a step back,"Don't."
