"I don't believe it" Karen says holding a goodbye letter from Sophie "She couldn't just leave you like that. She's not like that"

"But it's what it says, doesn't it?" Freddie is lying on his bed not knowing what to do now.

When he woke up yesterday Sophie was already gone, no note, no nothing. He looked all around the house, but failed to find her. Then he went to her house maybe she went home and decided not to wake him up, wouldn't be the first time.

When he walked in the first thing he saw was her big duffel bag packed with stuff. He looked all around the house but couldn't find her either. As he was about to give up he found a goodbye letter on the nightstand in her brother's old room.

'Dear whoever it is who's reading this,

I need some time alone. To clear my head and to get myself together.

Don't forget I love you. Bye' It was everything that she wrote in that letter, it's not even a letter at this point it's a goodbye note, she would leave those on Freddie's nightstand when she would spend the night at his place only saying 'Gone. Leaving. Lots of love'

"She didn't take her bag" Karen points the obvious looking at Sophie's packed bag in Freddie's room "Why'd you bring it here?"

"'Cause if she comes back for her stuff she has to face me as well" Freddie blankly stares at the wall "I left a note saying that I took it. I'm not going to leave it like that. I'm not going to make it easy for her. Not this time"

"What about her friends? Effy?" Karen asks. She still can't believe Sophie would do anything like that now when everything seemed to get better between her and Karen's older brother. Plus, as well as Karen knew Sophie, she would have never left Effy when she needed her the most, maybe it's that weird bond of theirs but whatever it was Sophie couldn't have left it without saying goodbye at first.

"No one knows where she is" Freddie stares blankly at his ceiling.

"How do you know?"

"Because I asked"

"They might be lying" Karen keeps talking not making it any easier for Freddie. What if what Karen is proposing is true? What if his friends are lying to him only because Sophie asked them to. No, Cook wouldn't do that to him. Or maybe he would. Cook's been madly in love with Sophie as much as Freddie have been and God knows Freddie would lie to every living soul if Sophie asked him to.

"Might" He answers being lost in his thoughts.

"I'm going to ask them" Karen gets up from Freddie's bed.

"Good"

"Fine" Karen says getting mad at Freddie for not doing anything and leaves his room leaving him alone with his own thoughts.

*****

Effy is sitting on a bed in hospital thinking about how everyone that have some meaning in her life leaves her.

She has a photo of her, actually she has a lot of photos of her. Effy loves taking photos of her, especially when she's mad. But this one is special.

She's standing in front of Freddie's shed with the biggest smile on her face looking straight into the camera. It's Effy's favorite picture of her and it breaks her heart to think that she just left her. Just ran away for a peaceful moment without her or maybe even worse... Effy doesn't want to think about it, but she just cannot stop the thoughts.

"Sometimes it's hard to move on" John Foster comes out of nowhere. He looks different, his face is bruised and it instantly makes her think of Sophie, she used to get into fights a lot "How are you, Elizabeth?"
