Chapter 44

Aimee's POV

We walked up the steps to the adoption center, Michael's sweaty hand, gripping mine tightly.

I tried calming him down by rubbing my thumb on the top of his hand.

He looked down at me as Janet and David walked in front of us.

They opened the door and walked in, we followed close behind and Michael closed the door behind us.

A little lady with Gray hair and blue glasses sat at the desk.

She was typing quickly then adjusted her glasses, when she looked at us, so she could see us.

Michaels hand was sweating as Janet and David moved so Michael could talk to the lady.

He let go of my hand, and walked up to the desk.

He took his baseball cap off, twisting it with his hands as he took another breath.

She looked up and smiled.

"How can I help you?"

"Do...do you have a boy named Donovan here? He's about 4 years old..."

She looked back at her computer and started typing.

Then she smiled and nodded.

"Yes there is! Would you like me to get him for you?"

He smiled lightly and nodded.

"Please."

She smiled and got up, walking quickly down a hall.

The door close behind her and we waited.

Michael stood facing the door, waiting as well.

Michael started tapping his foot impatiently.

Janet giggled and held David's arm.

"Applehead, be patient."

"I can't."

Michael sighed.

"I really wanna see my, 'Future Nephew.' "

She smiled.

"He's not your nephew yet. But...maybe..."

Michael smiled and twisted his hat again.

Suddenly, the door opened and put came Donny, with the lady behind him.

He gasped and ran to Michael, who picked him up and hugged him.

Michael closed his eyes and squeezed Donny gently.

Donny pulled back, then smiled.

"Hi Michael! I missed you!"

Michael chuckled an smiled huge.

"I missed you too!"

Then he saw me.

"Hi Aimee!!"

I giggled and waved.

"Hi Donny!"

He smiled and turned back to Michael.

"I have some people here that would like to meet you. Is that okay?"

"Uh huh!"

He smiled and turned to Janet and David.

Janet smiled and let go of David.

"Hi Donny. I'm Janet."

"Janet is my sister. She is thinking about adopting you."

He gasped and looked at Janet.

"A MOMMY!" He said wrapping his hand around her neck and hugging her tightly.

------------------Michael's POV-------------------

I could tell Janet was taken back by the hug, then her face softened and a smile formed as she hugged him back just as tightly.

Donny pulled back and looked at Janet.

"Are you gonna be my new mommy?"

Janet smiled as a tear rolled down her cheek.

She looked at David as Aimee walked over to me and hugged my arm.

I wrapped my arm around her waist, my hand covering her belly, almost protecting it.

David looked bak at Janet with a loving smile on his face.

David nodded and I could see Janet get more excited.

She turned back to Donny and he asked his question again.

"Are you gonna be my new mommy?"

Janet nodded and wiped a tear.

"Yes sweetie. I'm gonna be your new mommy, and he is gonna be your new daddy." She said pointing to David.

Donny smiled huge, then wrapped his arms around Janet hugging her.

Janet giggled and picked him up, hugging him tightly.

She walked over to David and he wrapped an arm around her waist.

I smiled and wrapped my other arm around Aimee's waist, both hands in her belly.

Janet kissed Donny's cheek and Donny smiled.

So did I.

I was happy that this child was safe in someone arms.

Someone that I knew would love him.

"Will I still be able to see Michael?" He asked Janet.

She nodded.

"Of course! He is your uncle now. And Aimee is your aunt!"

"So... Uncle Michael?" He said looking at me.

I nodded and smiled.

"Yeah?"

He smiled big and reached for me.

I smiled and took him from Janet's arms and gave him a big hug.

Then I put him down and he ran to Janet again.

He hugged her legs and she smiled.

Janet looked up at the lady that was sitting at the desk.

I had forgotten she was in the room.

"Ma'am?" Janet said picking up Donny.

"Yes?" She said waddling over to behind the desk.

"Where are those adoption papers?"
