"Henry?" I ask, walking over to him, head still throbbing. The boys dancing around the campfire are no longer paying attention.
He groans, haunted by his dreams as he turns around.
"Henry!" I repeat, a little louder. He shifts his position and opens his eyes.
"Where am I? Who are you?" He asks, probably sounding like I did not long ago.
I'm getting awfully sick of telling everyone my name. "Ruby. You're in Neverland... with Peter Pan and the lost boys... I think. I wasn't really filled in a lot either." I try to explain.
"Emma! My mum. Where is she?"
More of them? "I'm sorry, Henry. I have no idea who they are."
"My mum, Emma - she's the saviour. And... my other mum, Regina."
"Regina?" I ask. "She doesn't happen to have a mother, does she?"
"Yes." Henry shudders. "Cora."
"No way, it's the same Regina!" I say lightly. "I have to give her a message." I get up.
"Hang on." Henry frowns. "You can't just leave."
"Why not?" I ask, puzzled.
Henry glances around. "He didn't give you permission."
"Who?" I'm truly puzzled now.
"Pan, duh." Henry rolls his eyes. "You can't just leave Pan's camp."
"Why not?" I ask. "He didn't tell me I couldn't. Besides, when I find your parents I'll tell them you're alright."
Henry closes his eyes. "I've been kidnapped, Ruby. By two people who were working for Pan. He killed them. My family are going to save me, aren't they?"
"No, Henry." We both look up as Peter Pan materializes, right in front of us. I jump slightly. Seriously, would it be so hard to stop materializing when you least expect it. "Your family aren't coming for you. You're here, now. You have a very special mission - you're going to save magic. Ruby is going to help you. Together, you can save it."
"How can I save magic?" Henry asks, puzzled. But I don't buy it for a moment. There's something else that Pan isn't telling us.
"All in good time, Henry." Pan's eyes flicker to mine.
"There's something else, isn't there?" I get up and leave Henry to think. "Something you're not telling us."
"What makes you say that?" Pan doesn't turn around.
"Come on." I say a little crossly. "I may believe things but that doesn't mean I'm naive."
He turns around suddenly, walking towards me with purpose. My whole body seems to freeze and I back up, still feeling the effects of the events that have happened in the past few hours. I find a tree behind me and press up against it. Has this guy not heard of a personal space bubble? Because he's pushing the limits.
"See this is why there are no girls in Neverland," he smirks. "they're too clever."
His words send shivers down my side, because the way he says it doesn't sound like a compliment.
"Then why am I here?" he seems to enjoy taunting me as he laughs maliciously.
"You're special." He reaches into his coat and pulls out a pipe. "let me play you a song."
He blows on his pipe, releasing a volley of sweet notes that seem to relax me completely. My eyes feel heavy all of a sudden, like weights are dragging them down.
"I can hear the pipe." I say drowsily, like it matters. I can feel the tree growing taller... or am I just falling?
"I know you can, love." He keeps playing with one hand, while the other one touches my shoulder and guides me to the floor. "Pleasant dreams."
The last thing I see is his demon smile playing around his lips, and his muttered words... "One down. One to go."
