Danique was walking with hurried steps as she was walking through the wet grass, leaving Hagrid's hut further and further behind. She had decided to stay a little behind after their latest lesson so that she could ask Hagrid her questions without being interrupted. She had to admit that the participation with students attending their sixth or seventh year was not that high. Danique could tell that the big man was affected by the fact that most people didn't want to continue with care of magical creatures after their fifth year. Danique shivered as a cold wind passed by, she pressed her books closer to her chest and walked a little faster. As soon as she put her foot in the Entrance Hall she was met with a lot more chatter than usual. It didn't take long before she heard her name being called.
"Hey, where have you been?" Emily asked as she was quick to stand in front of her friend.
Danique looked at Emily like she just had asked a stupid question before answering. "At Hagrid's. I stayed a little behind to ask him a few question I had."
"Of course you stayed behind to ask a few question, I guess I'm even more stupid than we think since I didn't think of that."
Danique rolled her eyes at Emily's comment. "What is going on here?" She asked instead.
"I got over here to tell you but I got a little off topic as usual, I have some great news!" She exclaimed.
"What is it?"
"You know how they talked about the Triwizard Tournament during our first days back? The reason why there will be no Quidditch Cup this year?"
It felt like getting punched in the stomach when Emily mentioned the event. She had totally forgotten about the Triwizard Tournament, there had been so many other things on her mind lately.
Danique did her best to fight off the feelings she had been hit with, hoping that Emily had not gotten a glimpse of it.
"Oh, yeah. What about it?" She tried her best to sound nonchalant, like she wasn't full of worry while that was, indeed, the case.
"Right... I tried to memorize it so I could tell you, let's see.. Something about the delegations from Durmstrang and Beauxbatons, whatever that means, will arrive at 6 o'clock this Friday." Said Emily, shrugging her shoulders at the word she didn't quite understand. "Lessons will end half an hour earlier and we are supposed to return our bags and books in our dormitories before assembling at the front of the castle." She said as she continued with her informative ramble.
Danique raised her eyebrows as Emily let go of an excited squeal. She knew that she would have to read the paper herself to make sure the information Emily had given her was correct.
Later that evening when they found themselves sitting down at the Gryffindor table in the Great Hall, eating dinner, all people seemed to talk about was the Triwizard Tournament. Maybe she would have joined in as well, if she would have shared the excitement everyone else felt. She couldn't help but feel anxious and horrified, but she figured those feelings were normal since she had left France rather abruptly during her summerbreak. Especially since no one knew the reason why she no longer attended Académie de Magie Beauxbâtons and now, they would stay at Hogwarts for the remaining time that was left of the school year. In all honesty, she was aware of the fact that she wasn't ready for that kind of reunion. There they would be in their beautifully blue silk dresses with the ordinary hats and gloves, looking as put together as they always do. Then there would be Danique sitting with a different school uniform on, in a different house and her life looking a whole lot different. Everything was different from how it was before and the only way she would feel like herself again, was by re-living all of the memories. Sometimes it felt like she was trapped in someone else's body, like she had died during the night of the attack, but instead of ending up in some kind of afterlife she had ended up in another person's body. In a way she felt like a part of her really did die that night, she knew that there would always be a part of her missing. She didn't have her usual happy and chirpy persona. She didn't feel joy or exictement anymore, it was like her world had lost its colours. She didn't look at the world with the same bright and colourful vision anymore.
