1982, October 31.
Danique giggled to herself as she was skipping down the stairs of their two story home, on her way to show her father her halloween costume. She excitedly ran into the kitchen with her hands formed like the claws of a dinosaur.
"Raaaaw!" She exclaimed as she tried to have a peek at her father from under the hood that was a little too big for her, falling in front of her green eyes. Another cheerful giggle left the little girl's lips as she got a glimpse of the dirty blonde haired man who stood in the kitchen, making dinner for tonight.
"Oh, no! Please Miss Crocodile, you can have my delicious pasta but please leave my poor toes alone." He exclaimed out of fake fear while he did his best to cover up the smirk on his lips.
"Pére!" Danique exclaimed with an annoyed voice, stomping her foot to show her disappointment.
"What Q?" He asked with his best clueless voice.
"I'm not a crocodile pére!"
"Then what are you?"
"Can't you see?" Danique asked with a big sigh. "It's orrvious!" She continued, meaning that her Halloween costume was obvious. She crossed her arms as she waited for her father to guess correctly.
"Uh, are you a... ballet lizard?" Her father guessed again.
Danique suddenly broke out in a sincere laugh after hearing her father's guess.
"No! You're so silly Pére!" She laughed as an answer.
"Mhm, what are you then, my love?" He asked as he sat down on his knees.
"I'm a dinosaur princess." She said as she put her arms around her father's shoulders.
"Oh, so that's what the tutu is for!" He said with a big smile on his lips as he adjusted the hood on his daughter's head. A giggle left her mouth once again as she nodded her head, a big and toothy smile towards her father.
"You hungry?" He asked instead.
For a few seconds the little girl looked as if she was giving it a hard thought before she shook her head.
"No?" Asked her father again with raised eyebrows, having a hard time to actually believe her since she refused to eat anything besides pasta.
"No." The little girl confirmed with a giggle. She looked up from the apron she had been fiddling with and just stood there, smiling at her father.
"But you love pasta, don't you?" He asked.
"I do." She answered with a calm voice. "But do you want to know what I love even more?" She asked as she let go of the strap from the apron her father always wore when he cooked.
Her father let out a little sigh as he prepared himself. Danique had always been picky when it came to food, which only made him assume that she now had changed her mind about pasta and had moved onto something else.
"Yes, my love, what could you possible love more than pasta?"
"Candy!" The little girl exclaimed with her arms up in the air.
"Oh, I know. But your little stomach won't be very happy if you only eat candy." He said and started to tickle her stomach. Danique started to laugh hysterically when her father started to tickle her. She did her very best trying to get away from his fingers.
"Pére, stop!" She cried out in laughter. "Please, pére! My stomach is starting to hurt!" She laughed, but calmed down quickly once her father stopped tickling her.
"Why don't you go help me set the rest of the dinner table, hm?" He suggested as he got back up on his feet and turned off the stove.
It seemed to be a good idea since Danique's whole face lit up at his suggestion. "Yeah! I can do that, pére." She said with a big smile before standing on her tippy toes so that she could reach the top drawer, where they kept their silverware.
Her father couldn't stop himself from smiling when he saw, in the corner of his eye, that she grabbed a handful of forks and knives. Even though it only were the two of them. Danique bounced her way to the dining table and put a fork where her father usually sat.
"One fork for you." She mumbled as she put it down. "One knife for you."
"One fork for me."
"One knife for me."
"One fork for Ella."
"One fork for Flamingo."
"Is Ella and Flamingo joining us for dinner today?" Her father asked as he put the down the pot and pan on the table.
Danique climbed up in her chair and sat on her knees before looking at her father.
"Yes." She answered shortly.
Her father smiled at her before sitting down. Ella and Flamingo were Danique's imaginary friends and they did almost everything together, well except when they travelled to the North Pole and left Danique behind. They were not good friends during those times, but they always found their way back to each other.
"You want some pasta, my love?" He asked as he took her plate.
"Mhm." Danique hummed as she played with the material of her tutu.
Oh, how he loved his little girl.

Pére should be dad, if Google Translate's French is any good at all.
