Dawn hit the bedside alarm off for the fifth time that morning. She turned impatiently about to toss the clock across the room when her eyes caught a glance of the glowing figures.

7:30 am.

She jumped out of the bed and rushed into the bathroom, knowing she was going to be late for her first day in a new school. Showering quickly and brushing her teeth, she stood in front of her wardrobe tying a pink towel confused on what to wear. While still trying to decide, she heard her door open.
"Yeah?" she asked the intruder politely before she turned to the door see her brother's head pop in.
"Yish! You're not even dressed. Well breakfast is ready and if you wanna miss, be down in five". He said shutting the door with a bang. She sighed as he retreated from the room. She would just skip breakfast. She picked out a yellow top and blue jean with a black sandal and quickly threw them on. As she dropped her hair brush, her brother pushed her door open.

"I'm about to leave", he groaned.
"Well Adam, you do know how to knock right?"
"Whatever. Hurry up". Knowing it was pointless arguing with her brother she grabbed her purse and rushed down the stairs two steps at a time. Her mind drifted to the pair of stilettos she bought the previous day when she went shopping with her mum. If she wore it and ran down the stairs like that, she would be tumbling down to the bottom before she even took the first step.

She got to school about twenty minutes early. That would give her enough time to meet the Secretary and also get to her locker and not miss the bell for first class. As she stepped out of her brother's car, she took in the sight slowly. At the top of the building was "Halley Mart High School". There was a fountain with a stature of a white horse and a rider almost standing on its hind legs, with water spurting from its open mouth. The lawn was well kept with green beautiful carpet grass and colorful flowers around the edges separating the lawn from the pathway with a sign that said "DO NOT STEP ON THE GRASS", and another statue in the middle of a girl and a boy, holding books. She turned around to her brother but he was gone. She shook her head. His college was somewhere around that much she knew.

"Great! First day in a new school and I'm alone. He couldn't even wish me luck," She groaned as she slowly made her way to the Secretary's office. There weren't many students around yet so she quickly hurried there. She had been there the previous week for registration with her mum. They just moved to Illinois the last week and she had to continue with high school. Good thing she was a senior. That was going to be her last year, no more changing of schools.

She knocked on the door that had the tag of the secretary. There was a muffled response. She opened the door but closed it back immediately.
"I'm so sorry." She had seen her seriously making out with a blonde guy. After a short time the guy stepped out of the office. He nodded at her as he passed her adjusting his tie. She heard the secretary's tiny voice and opened the door and entered.
"I'm sorry about before." she flushed.
"No, it's not a problem. I just wanted to get my schedule, texts and the map for the school." But before she finished talking, the secretary Miss Floyd pushed a set of book to her.
"There. I had it all prepared Dawn".
"Thanks". She pursed her lips as she picked up the books and turned to leave the office.

"Dawn?" Miss Floyd called as Dawn's hand touched the door knob. She turned to look at the secretary.

"Yeah?"

"Uhm... If you need anything, anything at all, you can always come to me. Okay?"

"Okay." And with that she left the office.

Looking at her schedule, map and her surrounding, she made her way to her locker and put all her books. Her first class was Art. It was an optional course and she chose it out of her love and natural talent for art. She picked her art textbook and a notepad as the bell rang.
