I Decide That Dying Is So Overrated
"Hello demigods! How nice to see you." Tartarus bellowed as he looked down at their measly number. "Would you like to see your hero?"
The army of monsters parted and fake me walked through. He was dressed in full armor and Riptide hung lazily from his hand.
"He will be leading my army." Tartarus continued, "and he was gracious enough to inform me of your plans. We won't be approaching the lake, so don't worry about that."
My team could handle that. The enemy doesn't have to go to the lake, but we can bring the lake to them. I hoped they were there, since I didn't see them.
"As a result of your failure to surrender, he will be killed." He pointed to me. I smirked. He can try. "Any last words?"
I grinned, "I left a million dollars in the . . ." Nothing happened. "Aw, come on man, you were supposed to kill me right there and cut me off. It was supposed to be dramatic and suspenseful." No one laughed.
Tartarus growled. He conjured up a glowing orb in his hands and shot it at me. I convulsed and fell over, trying to make him think I was dead. Really, all it did was tickle.
I heard screams come from the campers. They didn't realize that I couldn't die that easily.
"You see? This is your price. I will give you one more chance to surrender. If you refuse, you will die like he did." My powers were back. Obviously since Tartarus thought I was dead he didn't feel the need to block them anymore.
Silently, and without moving, and I manipulated the Mist to make it look like the lake was still where it had always been, when in reality it was behind the horde of monsters.
"Well? Will you?" Tartarus looked at the Camp. Crickets chirped. Nothing happened. "All right." He turned back to his army. "Show no mercy."
Now! The lake behind the monsters exploded, and my team burst from the watery depths. Tartarus vanished, not wanting to be a part of the battle.
The two guards who had been holding me before grabbed my arms and dragged me off before I could jump up and help. I had to play dead a bit longer.
"Hey!" One of them felt my pulse against his palm. "He's still alive!" Styx.
They threw me on the ground and grabbed the chains before I could do anything. I sighed and sat up. "Guess the jig is up." They looked at me in disgust. I heard the battle in full war mode. I ached to join them. "How about this, we have a contest. You guys against me. You choose the weapon. Bow, dagger, sword, spear, anything. You win, you can kill me and get to say that you are the ones who did. I win, you let me go." They smiled and started whispering to each other.
"We accept. A bow and arrow." This confirmed my suspicion that they were traitors from Camp. They didn't think I could use a bow. I knew that keeping it a secret would help.
"You got it." We swore on the Styx and they handed me a bow and one of them grabbed another. We were to shoot at a moving hellhound and also a target. Whoever's shot killed the monster and was the straightest, won.
They went first. The one with the bow shot at the hellhound and just barely missed. Next, they shot at the target and got a perfect bullseye.
My turn. This would be a piece of cake. I shot at the hellhound and hit it the snout, where it immediately turned into dust. I shot at the target and split their arrow.
I looked back at them. Both of their jaws were open. They grumbled, but reluctantly unlocked my chains. I rubbed my wrists before pulling out Riptide and knocking them out.
"Finally!" I ran off to help the campers fight. Everywhere I went, they stared at me in shock. "Did you guys really think I would die that easily? That's kinda stupid."
Using my powers, which I had missed so much, I created little demigod dolls and hung them in front of the hellhounds. I directed them to where Nico was waiting, and he sent them back to the Fields of Punishment.
He looked at me and nodded, before whipping out his black sword and entering the fight. My team came over to me.
"Hey. How was being a prisoner?" Luke nonchalantly asked while swinging his sword around.
"Okay." We went back to demolishing monsters. I got my whole team's help, and together we taunted Tartarus's army.
We turned weapons into flowers, armor into pajamas. It was a little weird to see monsters in pajamas though. We spun the demigods around and just acted like little annoying elves. The monster army didn't know what hit them.
We were doing well until reinforcements came. Tons of cyclopes joined the battle, fighting on both sides.
I tried my best to help anyone who needed help, but it seemed like everyone did. Silena had done a good job teaching the Aphrodite children, but they wouldn't last long. I whistled for Blackjack and jumped onto his back, trying to get a birds eye view to find where I was needed most.
I saw the Hecate children using spells to save themselves, but they would need more than that. I steered Blackjack over and landed on top of an empousa. I slashed the others until they were gone and called Blackjack to help others.
We did the same thing, I would find a group of people needing help, appear over there, kill some monsters, repeat.
Eventually I looked down to see the Aphrodite children needing help. "Over there." I directed Blackjack over and hopped off. I braced myself to land and sprang up, ready to destroy some monsters. When I stood up though, the campers were gone.
I was surrounded. "Hello again. Time to get rid of you for real now." Fake me purred as he strolled over to me. He had used the Mist to make me think that the campers needed help, when it really was a trap.
The monsters tightened their circle around me, preventing any easy escape. I wouldn't teleport out, I needed to deal with him.
Before I could fight him, two monsters grabbed my arms and forced me to drop Riptide. My double positioned his sword over the small of my back and got ready to swing. I tried to show a struggle, since it would be unbelievable if I just sat there.
A sharp poke hit my back. Again, and again. "What? You should be dead!"
"Did you really think I was stupid enough to tell you where my mortal spot was? Gods, you're dumb."
He growled and swung again, just as I lifted my arm. Unluckily, his sword was headed right for my arm. Right where my mortal spot was.
Before the blade would have hit my arm, a bright light appeared and someone groaned. I opened my eyes to see someone else's arm in front of mine, with a sword stuck in it. They fell over, obviously dying.
I looked down at them and gasped. The person who had saved me had also succeeded in getting themselves killed. He would die. He had told me his only vulnerable spot, which was where he had been hit.
Slowly dying in front of me, lay Chaos. The creator of our world. The Void.
