I Discover That The Annoying Pegasus Isn't Very Annoying
I wish I could say that I listened to Chaos's advice and revenge was nowhere to be seen in my motives.
The truth? The only thing on my mind was revenge.
As Blackjack and I flew through a portal I thought of different ways to make Pontus pay before I would finally kill him. I could manipulate the water in his body, but that might not work since he is the Primordial God of the Sea. I could have Blackjack fly in like a crazy kamikaze pigeon, but he protects Pegasi so he might have control over him.
I decided to screw it and show no mercy.
We emerged on the planet Chaos had told me to go to and immediately saw destruction. As in, Perses, the Titan of destruction. He was easy enough to beat. Slash, hack, roll, slice. He's gone.
Then I looked for Pontus. I didn't see him, but Blackjack must've seen something.
I had climbed onto his back to look for Pontus, but Blackjack had other intentions. As soon as I was on his back, he took off. "Hey, Blackjack, slow down. Circle the perimeter." He didn't listen.
I mentally cursed myself. I knew I shouldn't have taken him! Pontus must be controlling him.
I tried desperately to get him to listen, but I couldn't get through. I saw that he was taking me to where the cluster of monsters was the heaviest. I knew it would be hard to escape from there, but I also knew it had to be where Pontus was. I got ready to jump off of Blackjack's back.
The ground came hurtling toward me, and I braced myself to land. Seconds before I would have touched the ground, I landed hard on something. That something turned out to be Blackjack. I tried to jump off again, but this time he caught my shirt in his teeth so I couldn't escape. Since Blackjack knew me and my powers well, he thwarted my every attempt to escape.
I huffed in annoyance and let Blackjack carry me. I would have to be careful when dealing with Pontus. He could easily kill Blackjack.
Blackjack reached the center of the clump of monsters and deposited me in a pre-made circle like a sack of one-year old laundry. He touched down himself, and seemed to gain control over his body again. Once he realized what was happening, he tried to take off with me to get us out of there, but a dracaenae grabbed his reins and several cyclopes pinned his wings to his back.
I turned and faced Pontus. "Well, Perseus. We meet again. It's been so long." He must not have been good with time, because it had only been half a year. I glared at him with hatred. It felt like yesterday.
With a yell, I drew Riptide and charged at him. Before my sword struck him, two pairs of scaly hands grabbed my arms and wrestled Riptide from my grasp. I jumped and bucked, but eventually more monsters came over until I couldn't move.
"Now, now. You are my guest. You wouldn't want to disrespect your host by running off, now, would you?" Pontus smiled. I really hated him. "Would you like to know why I took away your friends' memories? To make you feel alone. To have no one believe in you. To make you suffer like I have. Your father came along and pushed me out. Do you know how many people pray to me when they go fishing nowadays? No one, they all pray to your father. I suppose I did this to hurt you, but also for revenge on your father. Your steed will be paying as well."
That was it. I called on my Chaos powers, trying to escape. Pontus saw what I tried to do and conjured up black chains. They wrapped themselves around my body. My powers were useless and somehow Pontus was blocking them.
"Ah-ah-ah. That will only kill him faster." Pontus walked over to Blackjack. "Such a shame to destroy such a beautiful creature. Oh well." He stroked Blackjack's mane.
I'm so sorry, boss. I'm so sorry. I delivered you to him. I failed. I let you down.
"No, no you didn't Blackjack! And you will not be dying today!" I tried even harder to get free, but nothing worked.
"Ah, but he will be." With that, Pontus pulled out a long dagger flowing with a dark energy.
Goodbye, boss.
Pontus plunged the blade into Blackjack's side, and he dissolved.
"NO! BLACKJACK!" As I screamed for my friend, a new power inside of me awakened. An ancient power. Somehow I knew that it had been there since I was a baby, waiting to be triggered.
Unable to control it, I unleashed it. Unafraid to use my full powers, a blinding white light appeared. The chains melted, and every monster within ten feet of me disintegrated. Pontus backed away from me, horror filling his eyes.
I lifted my hands and a swirling white vortex filled them. It grew bigger and bigger until it was in the form of a Pegasus. A familiar Pegasus. I realized that this power was fed from the deaths of my loved ones.
Since Blackjack was very close to me, the power was almost unbearable. Without knowing what to do, or what would happen, I threw it at Pontus. His body melted into a puddle of water, in a desperate attempt to escape it. It didn't work.
"Blackjack" flew at the puddle, and on collision, exploded. The blinding light grew brighter and I squeezed my eyes shut. I heard a sonic boom and felt a tremor flow through the air.
I felt the light die down and I opened my eyes. The ground was covered in dust, as a result of every monster disintegrating. Pontus was crumpled on the ground, ichor, the golden blood of the gods, pooling around him.
"You can't stop us. Tartarus is rising back on Earth. He's not alone. And you can't stop him." Pontus breathed. With his last breath, he choked out, "You will lose." He slumped down, dead.
Immediately I felt a surge of power. Pontus' armor faded and left his body. After a few moments, it appeared on mine. I could feel the ocean at my fingertips. Every sea monster under my control. Every Pegasi.
Chaos materialized in front of me. "Well done, Perseus." I flinched at the use of my full name. "You must've realized by now that I didn't send you here just to kill him. I sense a war coming. It will not be easy. I knew you would never agree to me making you a Primordial. I knew I had to make you kill Pontus. I knew that once you did, you would take over as him. You are now Protogenos of all Waters, the Protector God of Pegasi, Horses and Birds, Father of the Seas and their Creatures."
I swore in Greek. "Really? You had to trick me?" I tried to come off pissed, but Chaos saw right through it.
"This was also you're test. Everyone on my team has gone through what you did. You were all chosen when you were born. Even Nancy. It wasn't her time to die then, which is why I hadn't come for her. That is why you were able to defeat Pontus with the special energy you found. Your's seems to be brighter, though. Every member of the team battled a Primordial, and when you won, took their powers and titles. Go on, try them out."
I tried out each power one by one. Hydrokinesis, Cryokinesis, Geokinesis, Aerokinesis, Atmokinesis, Chronokinesis, Cosmokinesis, Telekinesis, Telepathy, and Mystiokinesis. I barely thought about each, and mastered them on the first try.
Chaos smiled. "That is why they all have more powers than you. I didn't give them Chaos powers, they have the same amount of those as you. That's why they all specialize in different areas. They all took the powers of the Primordial they defeated."
"Yeah, well. It didn't help with Blackjack." I was bitter, pissed, and heartbroken. One of the few friends I could always count on was gone. I knelt down and scooped Blackjack's remains into a pouch.
"Yes, I am very sorry about that. With great power comes great sacrifice." I waved off his feeble attempt to comfort me.
"Something Pontus said bothered me. He said that Tartarus was rising, and he wasn't alone." I told Chaos.
"Don't worry. I will look into it and tell you more later." He created a portal to bring me back.
I ignored it and tested out my powers. Instead of going through the portal, I flashed away and appeared in the lounge. I nearly scared the Hades out of the team.
"Holy Hades, Percy!" Beckendorf swore in Greek and pushed me away. I had accidently landed on his head.
I laughed, "Sorry."
"Did you get him?" Luke asked.
I grinned. "Oh, yeah."
