I'm Visited By a Ghost-ish Thing
After a few hours, I returned to Camp Half-Blood. As I stood at the top of the hill, a bright light appeared and a man walked out of it. Chaos.
"Chaos! You're alive?" I said, overjoyed.
He sighed. "Not entirely."
I cocked my head. "What do you mean?"
"I am the first being, therefore I can't be completely killed. But I can be destroyed. I no longer have any powers, just immortality. I can appear and disappear at will. Think of me as a ghost. I will be like your mentor, giving you advice. I can only appear to you, though. Not the others. Which brings me to my purpose in coming here now.
"They remember you." He paused after seeing my expression. "Yes, the other you has dissipated. He is gone. The campers, the gods, your parents, they all remember the real you. I suggest you reveal yourself." Chaos walked over to Peleus and stroked his chin, making him happily snort smoke out of his nose.
"But why? Why now? You said it would happen in their time of need. Why not when we were fighting?"
"This moment of need is more important. They are in need of a role model. They need to know who their savior is, and they need to recognize him." Before I could ask more Chaos started to fade.
"Wait! Don't leave! What if you don't come back?" I reached out to grab him.
He maneuvered out of my grasp. "Don't worry. I will be back when you need me. For now, goodbye." Chaos glowed again, and he was gone.
In shock, I stumbled down the hill into the valley. The first thing that happened was Annabeth running up to me. "Please, my friend, Percy Jackson. He was erased from our minds three years ago and left because we didn't remember him. We didn't believe him when he said he was Percy. Have you seen him?" Annabeth was distraught, tears running down her cheeks.
I knew it was mean, but I wanted to surprise her. "I have heard the name, and met him, but I have not seen him in fifteen Chaos years. About two and a half of your years. If I cross paths with him in my travels, I will inform him that you would like to see him."
Annabeth nodded, disappointed. "Okay, thank you." She shuffled away and I quickly teleported to my cabin to tell my plan to the team. I sent a quick message to Grover, Chiron, Thalia and Nico, telling them not to blow my cover.
"You guys, they remember me. They really do." Smiles filled their faces.
"Percy! That's great news! What was Annabeth's reaction?" Silena wanted the juicy details.
"I haven't told anyone yet. I want to surprise them. Don't say anything. Also, Chaos is partially alive." That got their attention.
"What?"
"Yep. He can't be fully killed. He lost his powers, but he's immortal, almost like a ghost. He'll be my mentor. But he can't appear to you guys. I don't know why. Maybe because I took over as Chaos, so he can only appear to me."
"Oh, well. But that's still good. Now what is your master plan to surprise them?" I locked our cabin door before answering Beckendorf's question.
"Okay, knowing Annabeth she'll start sending out search parties for me and she'll announce it tonight at the campfire. When she says my name, I will teleport next to her and say 'someone say my name?' They'll all be confused since I'll be Sotirios. Annabeth will ask why I said that, etc. Then I'll reveal myself. What do you think?"
They laughed. "That will be perfect. I can't wait to see their faces and reactions. I'm so getting it on video." Daedalus conjured up a video camera, ready to film.
"Calm down. We still have a few hours." I flopped down on a couch and we spent the time joking around.
Well, they did. I tried to envision how to break the news to Annabeth easily. The news that I couldn't stay.
Hey Annabeth, I'm the new Chaos so I can't stay. See ya! No, no way.
Annabeth, I'm sorry but I don't like you. I have to leave. No thank you.
I'm Chaos now. I'd love to stay here, but I can't. Eh, okay-ish.
I'm so sorry Annabeth, but I can't stay on Earth anymore. I didn't want to be, but I'm the new Chaos. If I stay I'll become mortal and there won't be a Chaos. If I could I would trade this to stay with you, but I can't. I'm so sorry. Bingo.
"What're you thinking about Perce?" Luke looked at me.
I frowned. "How to tell Annabeth that I won't be able to stay on Earth."
Bianca sucked in a breath. "Tough. I know whatever you do will be right, though."
I hugged her. "Thanks Bianca." She grinned at me before judo-flipping me onto the floor. I groaned in fake pain, since it actually did not hurt one bit.
"You were asking for that. She was a Hunter once, remember?" Zoë barely looked up from her book.
Luke laughed and gave me a hand to pull me up. "Yeah, yeah, I know."
The conch horn sounded, signalling dinner. We filed into the pavilion and celebrated with a victory feast. We all ate and laughed and cheered. More campers kept coming up to my team and thanking us or congratulation us. It almost made me forget about Nancy and Blackjack.
When we were done, all of us gathered at the campfire. Apollo cabin led the sing-along, we roasted smores, told ghost stories.
The four people who had always remembered me joined my team. "When are you going to reveal yourself?" Thalia sat down next to me, while Chiron, Grover and Nico stared expectantly.
"Tonight." I didn't elaborate, and they left. Eventually, Chiron pounded his hoof on the ground.
"Once again, I would like to thank the heroes that helped us win this battle. Thank you. I know you are all curious about Percy Jackson. More on this topic, Annabeth had something to say." Okay, that was not a news moment at all.
I hope I can do this.
